Lady Bucks finish strong, blast Lady Jackrabbits

Wed, 04/28/2021 - 5:00 am

The Lady Bucks had the final word on their regular-season record with a (14-2) blow-out win over the Bowie Lady Jackrabbits and climbed over the Bowie Lady Jackrabbits to claim fifth place in District 7 with a (4-8) record.

Chloe Whitmire had eight strikeouts over her six innings of pitching for the Lady Bucks.

The Lady Bucks warmed up their bats as the game progressed and collected one run in the first inning, two in the second, one in the fourth, three in the fifth and blasted home seven runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Lady Bucks had a total of 17 hits, led by three for Brittney Melton, Carlee Stewart and Jenna Stewart to lead the Lady Bucks onslaught. Additionally, freshman, Shaedon Grenko had multiple hits to help in the Lady Bucks hitting.

Best of all, the Lady Bucks only had one error in the six innings of play.

Unfortunately, the season is over for the Lady Bucks by ending the season, with a (4-8) District 7 record and (8-11) overall. They finished fifth in District 7, which kept them out of any playoff hopes. However, this is a mostly freshman team that can sharpen their skills and come back next year ‘loaded for bear’ and have a better understanding of varsity competition. With the graduation of Caroline Turner #7, they will have to develop another pitcher or two to help Chloe Whitmire in that department. The Lady Bucks also can focus on basics to erase the multiple errors made in some of the really close games during the season.
