The Breckenridge Lady Bucks Varsity put up a fierce battle against the first place Lady Eagles of Brock in District 7-3A, but lost barely, 35-38. Carly Tennison (15) was at the charity stripe in the last seconds, but she missed all three foul shots that could have tied the game and thrown it into overtime.

Unfortunately for the Lady Bucks, who missed other opportunities to get in front of the Lady Eagles, were ahead 27-26 at 53 seconds of the third quarter but the Brock Eagles came right back to take the lead 27-30. Then Baylee Young (21) put up two points in the last seconds of the third quarter to make the score 29-30, only one point behind going into the fourth quarter.

At 6:58 of the fourth quarter, the Lady Bucks went ahead 32-30, with a bucket by Tennison, which was followed by a foul shot by Mariah Baladez (12), but the Lady Eagles got two three-pointers and a foul shot to shoot ahead 32-37 and then gathered another foul shot to make the score 32-38.

At that point, Tennison got a three-pointer to make the score to 35-38, but Tennison missed the foul shots, which Tennison usually sinks very reliably.

One of the top Lady Bucks scorers, Madison Stanley (10), left the game early in the third quarter, when she popped her left collar bone out of place, which rattled the team because she is another reliable shooter, who could be counted on to drop in a few buckets and a good three-pointer. As a result, the team had to make some adjustments and Baladez and Young were a big help during the last two quarters.

The loss to number one Brock did not jeopardize the Lady Bucks fourth place finish in District 7-3A, with an 8-6 record in district play and an overall record of 18-14.

The Lady Bucks squared off in a Bi-District matchup, with Nocona, the District 8-3A winner, who has a (9-1) record. The play-off game was set for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Graham High School.

First, the Lady Eagles of Brock will have to play the Jacksboro Lady Tigers in a District 7-3A seeding game slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Mineral Wells High School.› Both teams ended district play with a 12-2 record, which made the seeding game necessary to determine the first place team in District 7-3A.
