Lady Bucks lose two at home

Wed, 04/28/2021 - 5:00 am

It was not a pleasant evening for the Lady Bucks at Holder Field, in Breckenridge, as they took on two District 7 teams in a double-header. The first game with the City View Lady Mustangs was a makeup game from Friday when everybody got rained out. The second game of the double-header was against the Jacksboro Lady Tigers and was an attempt to beat the predicted very cold, inclement weather slated for Tuesday when the two teams were originally set to play.

First, the Lady Bucks took on the Lady Mustangs and lost the handle on that one in the first inning, when the Lady Mustangs tallied six runs. In the top of the second inning, the Lady Mustangs added another run to make it (0-7). Before it was all said and done, the Lady Bucks managed to collect one run in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Brittney Melton #3, singled to right field and then was able to score on an error by the right fielder. The game ended (1-10) and a loss for the Lady Bucks.

Caroline Turner #7 started as the pitcher, but only lasted a third of the inning after giving up six hits. Chloe Whitmire #2 was able to stem the bleeding that inning, but allowed nine more hits registered against her and seven strikeouts. The Lady Bucks committed six errors in that game.

Next, was the Jacksboro Lady Tigers. Not as bad a start for the Lady Bucks with only two runs tallied by the Lady Tigers in the first inning. However, they soon remedied that and added one more in the second, four more in the fourth and eight more in the fifth inning to shut the coffin lid shut on the Lady Bucks, who never mounted an offensive attack from their cold bats.

The Lady Tigers had 15 runs off nine hits. The Lady Bucks managed four hits, but no runs and they committed a dozen errors, three in one inning and multiple errors by two of the Lady Bucks. The Lady Bucks have battled the error dilemma all season, but that it multiplied throughout the team and affected the management of the game. Remember, this is a young team with only two seniors, a flock of freshmen, a few sophomores and a junior or two. They will have to develop more pitching and go back to basics on their fielding and batting.
