Lady Bucks subdue City View Lady Mustangs

The Lady Bucks squared-off against the Lady Mustangs of City View Tuesday, Jan.12, and won decisively 55-31.

The Lady Mustangs started the game with a three-pointer to take the lead 0-3. Nayeli Hernandez #5 sank two buckets from the foul line and Camila Palacios #15 sent a three-pointer to the basket for the Lady Bucks with the score tied 5-5 at 2:24 of the first quarter. The Lady Mustangs made a basket to go ahead 5-7, but Aimee Toliver #2 had other ideas. Her first bucket tied the score at 7-7 and then she made another quick bucket for the Lady Bucks to go ahead at the end of the first quarter 9-7.

At the beginning of the second quarter, Nora Ramirez #24 hit a quick bucket, but the Lady Mustangs collected two foul shots to make it 11-9. Kylee Willis #22 quickly got into the scoring column when she sank a three-pointer, which was followed by another from Jimena Palacios #25 and the Lady Bucks were up 17-9. After the Lady Mustangs collected two foul shots, Zaea Ragle sunk a bucket, which was followed quickly by another three-pointer from J. Palacios and the score was 21-11. By half-time, J. Palacios had sunk another three-pointer and Ramirez had contributed another bucket, which made the half-time score at 28-17.

At the beginning of the second half, Toliver made a corner shot for two points and Ragle followed that with two foul shots. Hernandez made her foul shots and it was 34 -17. The Lady Mustangs had been temporarily contained with no baskets. The Lady Mustangs made a foul shot to get to 18 points. Willis contributed her own foul shot for the Lady Bucks which was followed by two more foul shots from Ragle who was slammed to the floor in an attempt to get a bucket for the Lady Bucks. Ragle followed that with another three-pointer to make it 40-19. Ragle made two more quick buckets followed by one from Willis and two more foul shots from Ragle, who is very consistent at the charity stripe. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 49-24.

During the fourth quarter, the Lady Bucks were largely contained, but managed a foul shot from Ragle, one from C. Palacios. Ragle managed to hit a bucket and Jady Gonzales made a bucket to finish the game 55-31 and a big win for the Lady Bucks in District 7. They will move off the bottom of the District rankings at 1-5 and an overall record of 5-11.

Going into the second half of district play, the Lady Bucks will face the Lady Indians of Nocona. The Lady Bucks lost in the first half of the season, 16- 75. This matchup will take place at home Friday, Jan.
