Lady Bucks top Nocona

The Lady Bucks were able to get in the win column against the Nocona Lady Indians with an (11-0) win last Thursday. They had beaten the Lady Indians earlier in the season, (11-3). This time the Lady Indians could only muster one hit late in the fifth inning, but no runs scored.

The Lady Bucks collected runs in every frame except the third, but had collected five runs in their onslaught in the second inning to take a commanding lead, (6-0). The Lady Bucks had one run in the first inning when Chloe Whitmire hit a line drive past the first baseman to bring in Carlee Stewart.

In the second inning, Ryleigh Cowan singled on a ground ball to shortstop that drove in Jenna Stewart, who had gotten on base by being hit by the pitcher, for a run. Next, Cara Schkade hit a hard grounder to centerfield and scored Cowan. Haigen Thompson walked. The next batter, Carlee Stewart, lined out to the shortstop and the runners remained on their bases. Brittney Melton is hit by a pitch, which loads the bases. Whitmire hit a fly ball to right field which emptied the bases and she was safe at first on an error by the right fielder. The next batter, Caroline Turner, was hit by a pitch and took first and Whitmire moved to second. Emma Beauchamp struck out and the inning ended with five runs scored.

The Lady Bucks continued the onslaught and collected five more runs over three innings to beat the district contest.

Whitmire took the win for the Lady Bucks with 10 strikeouts, no walks and gave up only one hit.

Cara Schkade had three hits and Brittney Melton had a triple with her three hits to lead the Lady Bucks, with Whitmire and Carlee Stewart with two hits each and Reagan Jenson had a double.

The Lady Bucks will play Holliday at home on Friday, April 9.
