Lady Bucks use team effort in win

Wed, 04/21/2021 - 5:00 am

Freshman, Lady Bucks pitcher, Chloe Whitmire #2, led the Lady Bucks to a (4- 0) victory over the Henrietta Lady Bearcats Tuesday, April 13. That was a must-have win in order for the Lady Bucks to keep in the running for a possible playoff spot in District 7-3A.

In the game against the Henrietta Lady Bearcats, Whitmire got off to a rather shaky start with three walks with the first four batters. However, she managed to get two strikeouts and then settled down for the rest of the game and had six strikeouts over the seven innings of pitching. She allowed only one hit and that was in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Brittney Melton #3, Carlee Stewart #6, who had a double, and Jenna Stewart #9 led the team with two hits each. The rest of the team filled in with singles from Whitmire, Caroline Turner #7, Emma Beauchamp #1, Reagan Jenson #8 and Cara Schkade #15 for a total of 11 hits. Most importantly, the Lady Bucks committed only one error, which has been a problem in past games when they lost close ones.

The Lady Bucks jumped out in the lead in the first inning with a run by C. Stewart off that double and sailed into home on a hard grounder hit by Whitmire.

The third inning provided two more runs with the bases loaded when Whitmire once again hit a hard grounder to right field allowing Schkade to score. Next, Turner had a hard-hit single out to left field, which allowed Jenson to score and it was (3-0).

The Lady Bucks collected the fourth run in the top of the fifth inning with back-to-back singles by Beauchamp and J. Stewart to allow Eugenia Duran #13, who was the courtesy runner for Whitmire, to score. Whitmire had gotten on base with a walk to start things off that inning.

The Lady Bucks improved their District 7 record to (3-6) and an overall record of (7-9). The Lady Bucks have a tough hill to climb. Next, they must take on City View at Holder Park, then host Jacksboro before they finish the regular season away at Bowie. Both City View and Bowie are ahead of the Lady Bucks in the District 7 standings so the hometeam has its work cut out for them.
