Lady Bucks win 2, lose 1

On Friday, Aug. 14, the Lady Bucks began a busy weekend in their warmup to district play with a match against the Sweetwater Lady Mustangs, which they lost in three straight sets, 14-25, 23-25, and 22-25, with the last two sets fought very closely, but lost the match. Jesi Warren led the Lady Bucks with a big second from Kylee Willis and lots of help from Lilly Woodward in the second and third sets.

Stats from that match as follows: K= kills, A= aces, B= blocks, D= digs

Haylie Mendoza = 2 K

Savannah Fade = 1 K

The Lady Bucks JV lost their match in two straight sets, 15-25, 18-25. Smalley and Ramirez led the JV attack despite the loss.

The Freshman Lady Bucks lost their match in three sets, 19-25, 25-11 and 18- 25. The girls won the second set, but couldn’t pull off a win in the third set, which decided the match. Zaea Ragle was the outstanding player for the freshmen with multiple aces by Jenna Stewart, Carlee Stewart and Violeta Gallegos.

On Saturday, Aug. 15, the Lady Bucks traveled to Hawley to play both the Lady Bearcats of Hawley and the Lady Eagles from Bronte. The Lady Bucks faced off with the Lady Bearcats and won the first set easily, 25-14. The Lady Bearcats fought back in the second set, but the Lady Bucks came through and won it, 25-22, in a close one. Unfortunately, the Lady Bucks had a slight let-down in the third set and lost it 15-25, but came out and fought vigorously in the fourth set to finish in a close-set, 15-13 to win the match. Jesi Warren and Lilli Woodward teamed up to lead the Lady Bucks with a big assist from Haylie Mendoza.

The Lady Bucks JV won their match in two straight sets, 25-8 and 25-17 to win the match. The Lady Bucks Freshman team won their match in two straight sets, 25-19 and 25-21, for a clean sweep for the Lady Bucks.

Next, the Lady Bucks played the Lady Eagles from Bronte and lost the first set, 15-25, but quickly took charge and clipped off the second set, 25-17. The lady Bucks fought hard through the last two sets prevailing 25-22 and 25-22 to win the match in four sets. Jesi Warren and Lilly Woodward teamed up to lead the Lady Bucks on this team effort, with an assist from Haylie Mendoza, the lone freshman on the varsity.

The Lady Bucks JV won their match against the Lady Eagles JV, in two straight sets, 25-8 and 25-17. There was no freshman team for the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Bucks are slated to play on Saturday, Aug. 29 against the Lady Bearcats of Hawley.

On Tuesday, Sept. 1, the Lady Bucks will play Clyde and Paradise at home in back to back matches at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

The Lady Bucks JV will play at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. and the Freshman Lady Bucks will play at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.

On Friday, Sept. 4, the Lady Bucks will travel to Iowa Park to play the varsity team there at 4:30 p.m., the JV team will play at 5:30 p.m. and the Freshman Lady Bucks will also play at 5:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the Lady Bucks will begin District play against Henrietta, at Henrietta, with the Lady Bucks Varsity playing at 5:30 p.m. The JV and Freshman teams will both play at 4:30 p.m.
