The Lady Bucks were able to smoother the Nocona Lady Indians with timely runs right from the first inning with one run driven in. The hot bats hit in the second inning with six runs crossed the plate and then four more in the bottom of the fifth inning before the Nocona Indians got a hold of the mound and were able to keep the Lady Bucks from scoring any more runs in the game. Meanwhile, the Lady Indians were only able to scrape in three total runs to lose (11-3). The Lady Bucks were making a firm statement that they were planning to stay on top.
Likewise, the senior pitcher, Caroline Turner #7, kept control on the mound with eight strikeouts in the game and gave up one walk with six Lady Indians left on base with strong play from the Lady Bucks shortstop, Elena Arellano #11, who stopped major plays developing by stopping hard-hit balls to her and getting the throw to first for the outs. Turner and Arellano were named KLAKs Co-Players of the Game by Charlie Parker and Lance Kitchens, who was back in his chair to announce the Lady Bucks District 7 games after a long bout of the COVID virus.
Carlee Stewart #6 led the Lady Bucks attack with a hard-hit ball past third base in fair territory to make it to first base. Arellano got a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a Lady Indian error and then made it home for the first run for the Lady Bucks. The next two batters were out at first.
The Lady Indians managed to squeeze a run home during the first inning and the score was (1-1).
Jenna Stewart #9 led off for the Lady Bucks in the bottom of the second with a double on a fly ball to the fence in centerfield. However, the next batter, Chloe Whitmire #2 was called out with an obstruction of the ball played by the Lady Indian shortstop as she rounded second. Next, Ryleigh Cowan #12 hit back to centerfield and drove in the second run for the Lady Bucks. Reagan Jenson #8 got a walk and C. Steward drove in another two runs off her hard-hit ball to right field. Next, Brittany Melton hit a timely bunt that cleared two runners and she got a triple out of the mishandling of the ball by the Lady Indians. It was now (5-1). The Lady Bucks were not through with their bats with another hit by Turner to right field to score another run for the Lady Bucks. The next batter struck out and J. Stewart hit a hardball between left and centerfield to score B. Melton and Turner. The score was now (7-1) at the bottom of the second inning.
The Lady Bucks quickly dispensed with the Lady Indians with a caught ball by the Lady Bucks shortstop, Arellano, followed by another ball to short for the second out at first base and then the third batter hit to the shortstop, Arellano, for the third out of the inning.
The Lady Buck’s first batter was out in the bottom of the third inning, Chloe Whitmire, with a throw to first from the shortstop. Next, Cowan hit a hard-hit ball just in fair territory to left field and she was safe at first and quickly stole to second. Jenson hit a ball in the infield, but got to first. But, once again, a Lady Bucks runner was called out for interference with the ball between second and third, Cowan this time. The Lady Bucks lost a run that had scored, as the runner had to return to third.
The score remained (7-1). The Lady Indians managed to score a second run in the top of the fourth inning which made the score, (7-2)
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, J. Stewart hit to right field for a double, with an error by the Lady Indians right-fielder. Whitmire followed that with a hardhit ball to centerfield to bring the runner in for a score and it was (8-2). Cara Schkade laid down a bunt to move the runner to third and she was safe at first. Next, C. Stewart got a walk and the next batter, B. Melton was hit by a pitch. Once again, the bases are loaded for the Lady Bucks. Arellano got a double that scored two runs and it was now (10-2). Turner’s hit next scored the fourth run for the Lady Bucks and the score was (11-2).
The Lady Indians scored one more run in the top of the sixth inning, but not enough to overcome the huge lead by the Lady Bucks, who took their first District 7 win, (11-3).
The Lady Bucks travel to Holliday Monday, March 15, to play the Holliday Lady Eagles at 5 p.m. Then on Tuesday, March 16, the Lady Bucks host Henrietta in the third District 7 game. The Lady Bucks get the rest of Spring Break off before they return to travel to play City View, Tuesday, March 23.
