Wed, 11/11/2020 - 5:00 am

In only the second scrimmage of the 2020- 21 Lady Bucks basketball season, the varsity Lady Bucks took the game to a 52-52 tie at the end of regulation play.

A three-minute overtime period was instituted and the Lady Bucks took that opportunity to squeeze out a close win, 60-58.

Initially, the Lady Bucks fought their way to a 10- 11 score, at the end of the first quarter of play. In the second quarter, the Lady Bucks got stuck on 17 points before they settled down and began to consistently put the ball in the bucket. The Lady Bucks were led by #23 Zaea Ragle, #24 Nora Ramirez, #22 Kylee Willis and #15 Camila Palacios, who all continued to contribute and fought their way to a 21-25 score at the end of the first half.

The second half began with the Lady Bucks down by four points, but that was soon rectified as the Lady Bucks began to settle down and connect for points. In addition to the names mentioned above, #3 Reigen Robertson was able to draw fouls from the Lady Bulldogs and continued to contribute from the charity stripe in the third quarter. Also, #5 Nayeli Hernandez demonstrated her ability to drive the ball down court along with #1 Emily Welch. The Lady Bucks continued to battle the Lady Bulldogs to a tie at 32-32 with buckets from #22 Willis, #23 Ragle, #3 Robertson and then #1 Welch hit a foul shot just before the buzzer sounded to end the first half. As a result, the Lady Bucks went into the locker room at the half with a razor-thin edge of 33-32.

The battle continued in the fourth quarter with buckets from #22 Willis, # 23 Ragle, #1 Welch, #15 Ramirez and #3 Robertson, who continued to make points at the charity stripe and squeezed in her own bucket for two points.

Meanwhile, the Lady Bulldogs from Clyde had five players check out of the game in the fourth quarter due to too many fouls against the Lady Bucks. The multiple fouls by the Lady Bulldogs contributed to the opportunity for the Lady Bucks to add points to the score and help drive the Lady Bulldogs to a 52-52 tie at the end of regulation play.

The Lady Bucks continued the well-fought battle, but had too many misses for easy layup shots. However, the Lady Bucks, once again, were able to settle down with shots made by #24 Ramirez, #22 Willis, #15 Palacios and #2 Amy Toliver, a newcomer to the Lady Bucks team.

The hard-fought battle ended with a narrow win by the Lady Bucks, 60-58.
