The Breckenridge Lady Bucks closed out the final week of 2025 with three games at the Brownwood Holiday Classic, competing in the City of Early pool against a tough slate that included eventual bracket champion Cisco. The tournament brought together programs from across the region for three days of holiday basketball, giving teams a final tune-up before the start of January district play.
Breckenridge opened the tournament Monday, Dec. 29 against Cisco, a team that controlled its pool from start to finish. The Lady Loboes set the pace early and went on to a 65-7 win, using their size and pressure to keep the Lady Bucks off balance. Despite the score, Breckenridge continued to compete through the final whistle, leaning on its younger players for valuable minutes.
Tuesday brought a schedule shift. The Lady Bucks were originally slated to face Childress in their first game that day, but the team forfeited the game in order to attend the funeral of longtime Buckaroo coach and athletic trainer Bill Pearce. The program’s decision reflected the deep impact Pearce had on generations of Breckenridge athletes and coaches. \\
Later that day, the Lady Bucks returned to the court and responded with their strongest showing of the tournament, earning a 26-19 win over Bangs. Breckenridge relied on its defense to control the tempo, holding Bangs to single-digit scoring in multiple stretches and making key plays late to secure the victory.
Breckenridge wrapped up pool play Wednesday, Dec. 31, falling 47-28 to Nolan Catholic. The Lady Bucks stayed within reach early before Nolan Catholic pulled away in the second half.
With the tournament behind them, the Lady Bucks now turn their attention to district play as the calendar flips to 2026. They will face Early at home Tuesday, Jan. 6 before heading to Dublin for their next game Friday, Jan. 9 to face the Lady Lions.
