Former Breckenridge Buckaroo and current University of North Texas runner Chase Lehr continued a legacy of success by winning the 800-meter run at the 2026 American Conference.

The 2026 American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship was held Feb. 27-28 at the Birmingham Complex in Alabama. The North Texas men’s team scored a fifth place spot while the women’s team scored a first place finish in the competition.

The Breckenridge Class of 2023 graduate scored first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:47.67.

Lehr improved on his time and placing in the championship from last year when he was second with a time of 1:49.12 in the men’s 800-meter run. During that competition he broke the UNT school running record.

Lehr began competing in track and field during his junior year at Breckenridge High School and left a mark on the program for the district.

His senior year, Lehr defended his state title and brought home the gold in the 800-meter run at the 2023 UIL Track & Field State Meet with a time of 1:51.82. He capped off his senior season in which he finished first place in the 800-meter run at each meet in which he competed.

He committed to attend UNT his senior year, and since graduating from BHS has competed in multiple events as he continues to improve and impress.
