Success continues to find its way to former Breckenridge Buckaroo and current University of North Texas runner Chase Lehr, who picked up a first-place finish in the Men’s 800-Meter Run of the 2026 American Conference Outdoor Championships.
On top of his individual first-place finish, Lehr was part of the UNT team with Clarence McGill, Nehemiah Ray and Chris Johnson who won first in the Men’s 4x400 Relay during the championships with a time of 3:05.91, a program and facility record.
Lehr currently holds five UNT school records which are the Indoor 800-Meter, Distance Medley Relay, Indoor 4x400 Relay and Outdoor 4x400 Relay.
The American Conference Outdoor Championships were held May 14-16 at Norma Knobel Hunt Stadium at UNT. This was the first time UNT hosted the conference championship since joining the league.
This achievement was only three months after bringing home a first-place finish in Men’s 800-Meter Run in the 2026 American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship Feb. 27-28 at the Birmingham Complex in Alabama.
Lehr began competing in track and field during his junior year at Breckenridge High School and left a mark on the program for the district.
His senior year, Lehr defended his state title and brought home the gold in the 800-meter run at the 2023 UIL Track & Field State Meet with a time of 1:51.82. He capped off his senior season in which he finished first place in the 800-meter run at each meet in which he competed.
He committed to attend UNT his senior year, and since graduating from BHS has competed in multiple events and continues to rake in the accolades.
