A quick Google search into Breckenridge Buckaroo’s new wide-receivers coach, Tanner Crain will find unsettling information. But his story of redemption and setting the record straight will make his journey to Breckenridge worthwhile.
A major incident arose in Sweetwater in mid-March of 2019 that interrupted the work and nearly the career of this coach. But, a second chance with the Breckenridge Independent School District has the Buckaroos in great shape to compete for championships for the foreseeable future.
“I don’t want this to be a distraction for the team and what we accomplish this season,” Crain said. “This isn’t about me, it’s the smile on the student’s faces when I see they’ve accomplished something, not just on the field, but also in the classroom. We want to be the coaching staff where a student says ‘he helped me accomplish this or this coaching staff helped me succeed. I feel like we will bring this team to the point where people will say ‘Breckenridge is back on the map’.”
A news article written in 2019, nearly cost this coach his livelihood. After filing an open record request with the Nolan County District Clerk’s office, the office promptly responded in regards to any investigation into Crain.
The office provided a certificate of search into this individual on Thursday, August 6. The search obtained no pending, current, or past records were found regarding any investigation into Crain.
“There was nothing filed against him,” Kassi Muncy, Nolan County’s Deputy District Clerk said. “No arrest was made and there was no need to expunge his records.”
Breckenridge Independent School District was informed on the situation and did their due diligence into the matter to corroborate all information during the hiring process.
“Once fans start to see what this coaching staff brings to the table, this community will come together around this team, Crain said.” “We will see how deep we can go this season. I want this to be about all of us, not just me. These kids and this coaching staff are what matters most.”
With this issue behind the team, the Buckaroos are moving on to focus on developing young men and women of the future.
