Stamford’s Herrera hired as Lady Bucks’ head softball coach

Wed, 06/29/2022 - 5:00 am

During their regular meeting Monday, June 13, Breckenridge ISD approved the hiring of Cyndi Herrera to head the Lady Buckaroo’s softball program.

Herrera comes to Breckenridge from Stamford, where she led the Lady Bulldogs to a 2021 Class 2A state title, and a 2022 appearance at the state tournament. She was with the district for four years.

Herrera said she sees a lot of promise in the Breckenridge athletes.

“I saw Breckenridge play earlier last spring and definitely saw a lot of potential,” she said. “They’re competitive and I’m ready to compete right next to them.”

The Lady Bucks met Herrera’s Lady Bulldogs last season in Stamford’s season opener, where Breckenridge lost 7-2.

The upcoming season will be Herrera’s fifth coaching. She played junior college softball for two years, before transferring to Shriner University in Kerrville.

“I’ve played my whole life, so there’s definitely a lot of softball in my past,” Herrera said.

The Lady Buckaroos went 21-10 overall during the 2022 season. Breckenridge swept Bangs in the bi-district round. Their season ended Saturday, May 7 in the area round against Merkel, after a two-game battle.
