The Breckenridge Lady Bucks Varsity team are on a four-game winning streak in District 7-3A.

They have defeated Peaster, Tolar, Boyd and Millsap in the last four games. On Friday, Jan. 18 the Lady Bucks defeated the first place team, Peaster, 47-41. On Tuesday, Jan. 22, they beat the Tolar Rattlers 54-42 and on Friday, Jan. 25, the Lady Bucks beat the Boyd Yellowjackets in a very close game, 43-41. Then on Tuesday, Jan. 29, the Lady Bucks defeated the Millsap Lady Bulldogs, 75-60.

The Lady Bucks played the Paradise Lady Panthers Friday, Feb. 1, at Paradise and then will finish the regular season against the Brock Eagles, to whom they lost to on Jan. 11, 28-70. This game should be a show-down as the Lady Bucks have improved tremendously since they played Brock earlier in the season.

The game against the Millsap Lady Bullfrogs was close through to the third quarter when the Lady Bucks pulled away, with everyone’s basket falling in during the last few minutes of the fourth quarter.

The Lady Bucks are very adept at stealing the ball, without fouling their opponent most of the time, and when they can turn them into points on the other end it is a recipe for winning.

Right out of the starting gate, the Bucks fell behind, but just barely. By the end of the first quarter, the Lady Bucks were behind, 14-19. At 4:07 of the second quarter, the Lady Bucks were within three points at 24-27. By the half, they had slipped and were behind 30-36.

At the beginning of the third quarter, Alyssa Reyes (5) put two points in and then Carly Tennison (15) sunk one of her three-pointers, which boosted the score to 35-36. Then the Bulldogs sunk one of their own three-pointers. Tennison picked up two foul shots and now the score was 39-41, but Reyes dropped in a basket and it was all tied up at 41-41, with 3:52 left in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs sunk another three-pointer, but Kylee Willis (22) made a basket and that was followed by a three-pointer by Madison Stanley (10), which made the score› 46-44. The Bulldogs collected another two points to tie the score at 46-46, with 1:30 left of the third. By the end of the third quarter, the Lady Bucks were ahead, 53-50.

As the fourth quarter commenced, the fans saw a barrage of scoring from the Lady Bucks with Aaliyah Lawson (24). Tennison and Stanley also each sunk three baskets, while Willis sunk two and at 3:13 of the fourth quarter it was 69-54. The Bulldogs had not made a basket between 5:55 to 3:13 on the clock and were stuck at 54 during that period and then collected a foul shot at 3:07 to make it 69-55.

Tennison continued to drop in two more baskets and collect two more foul shots to make the final score 75-60.

Tennison made a record 31 points in the game against Millsap, while Stanley had 24 and Willis had 12.

The Lady Bucks play their last game at home on Tuesday, Feb. 5 against the Brock Lady Eagles. The Lady Bucks are in fourth place with a District 7-3A with a record of 8-4. They dropped their game against Paradise 47-51, which broke their four-game winning streak but did not jeopardize their fourth-place ranking in District.

The JV Green girls won their game against the Millsap JV, 39-35. The Lady Bucks JV team led at the half 26-17 and kept the Bulldogs at 20 points for over four minutes of the last quarter. During the remaining time, the Lady Bulldogs were creeping up, but the Lady Bucks JV persevered and kept it all under control for the win.
