The BHS Cross Country team had a strong first day workout on Monday.
Around 25 athletes attended the first day with more expected to arrive in the coming days as schedules are arranged with dual sport athletes.
“I thought our first day went really well,” head cross country coach Kim Dieterich said. “We started out by bumping up the time three minutes longer than we have the last year or two. We were happy with the first day and felt like the straight cross country kids ran a faster pace even with a longer time period than what they did last year.”
The quest for a deep football playoff run began Monday morning as well for the Buckaroo football team.
Around 75 players attended the first day of workouts and more may arrive in the coming days as well.
“We had a good first day with good numbers and good turnout,” head football coach Casey Hubble said. “We are looking forward to taking where we are at and growing and building onto it.”
“We want to get to where when we roll into the non-district schedule we are a lot better than we are right now. Then when we hit district we want to be playing good football and as always, when we hit the playoffs, we want to be firing on all cylinders and playing unbelievable football,” Hubble said. “That’s always our goal.”
Hubble said he is looking forward to having a group of younger athletes step up and make an impact.
“We have some young kids that will step up and fill some spots,” Hubble said. “We have a good group of kids out there that will make a difference.”
Thursday, the Buckaroos will practice from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Friday will be split into two workout sessions, 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Friday will also be the first day of contact drills.
Next week, practice will be held from 4 to 7:15 p.m.
The first scrimmage will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12 in Jacksboro.
