Cooksey places third in 100 meter dash

The spring track season began back in February and many students went through the grind of perfecting their individual skills and abilities as they competed individually or as a member of a Relay Team and the BHS Track Team collectively.

Kylee Willis competed in the High Jump, the Long Jump and in the 200 Meter Dash. Additionally, Willis was a member of the 4x100 Meter Relay Team and the 4x400 Meter Relay Team.

Willis qualified through District 7-3A and then Area at Dublin and finally in Regionals at ACU in Abilene.

When all the dust settled, Willis qualified to go to the State Meet in Austin in the High Jump. At the State Meet, Willis jumped 5’ 5” to win a Bronze Medal in 3A State competition. She had jumped 5’4” at Regionals so, she had her personal best at the State 3A Meet. She missed jumping 5’6” in two attempts.

Sean Cooksey followed the same pattern of competitions through the spring Track Meets in Area and Regionals at ACU, with a first place in the Regional Meet in the 100 Meter Dash, at 10.68 seconds. As a result, Cooksey qualified in the 100 Meter Dash and as a member of the 4x200 Meter Relay Team to go to the State Meet in Austin.

Cooksey placed 5th in the 100 Meter Dash in the State 3A competition in Austin. He is only a sophomore so has a few years to earn that medal at the state competition.

The Breckenridge community congratulates these two athletes and all those athletes who worked hard in their individual endeavors and their team efforts throughout the spring sports. Many competed in two sports simultaneously and should be commended for all their hard work. The students not only represented Breckenridge High School, but the community of Breckenridge as well.
