Wed, 10/31/2018 - 12:00 am

The Woman’s Forum met on Tuesday, Oct. 23, to hear a program from JoAnn Thompson, who owns Sweet Stuff and Coffee with her husband Dennis. The couple came to Breckenridge from Cross Plains in 2007 and opened the shop after some remodeling. The shop is located just behind the First National Bank building, in the three-story brick, where they live on the second and third floor.During her presentation, she pointed out examples of what they sell with items for sale after the meeting. Among those items was a lemon pound cake, a yellow cake, brownies and Pecan Brittle that her husband hand stretches. She added that they have shipped their specialized popcorn and brittle in tins and other items to as many as 27 states. At the end of the program, she had a drawing for two gift sacks won by Sharon Pendleton and Lorene Calkins. The morning was filled with the usually spirited games of Liverpool Rummy and Bridge prior to breaking for lunch, which was catered by Canyon Road Bar and Grill, owned by Kent Thompson. Lunch was a choice between grilled chicken or a salmon patty. The hostess chair was Cassie Griffith and co-chair was Julie Herring. The hostess committee included Lytane Parker, Trissie Dempsey, Barbara Thornton, Pam Griffith and Beverley Olson. The winner of Liverpool Rummy, with the lowest score, was Marilyn Kieke and the high score Bridge winner was Diana Fambro. The door prize was provided by Beverley Olson and won by Barbara Thompson. The Forum room was decorated in a baking theme, that included an assortment of antique baking items from decades in the past. Also, there were Forum cookbooks, which were given as prizes to those who had a ribbon tied on their chair and to the two new members, Charlene Richardson and Connie Meason.Mona Craig reported on the September service project, to provide two Stop Sticks for the Stephens County Sheriff’s Department. She said they lacked $50 for that project and hoped to collect that amount from members at the meeting. She also asked for donations toward the cost of training a drug dog for the department, which is $3,000. It was announced that Teeny Pearce broke her right leg above the knee in a fall and is currently at Stephens Memorial Hospital, after undergoing surgery in Abilene. Members would co-ordinate to provide meals after she is sent home. If anyone wants to rent the Forum building over the next few months, call Pat Knight at 254-559-0680 or email at bobpatknight@gmail.com. She is handling that responsibility for the foreseeable future. The Forum meeting in November will feature Jenny Holt, who will speak about “The Season for Giving,” by telling about her service with the Peace Corp in Africa.
