Lady Bucks take third at Anson tournament

After a struggle to start the district schedule, the Lady Buckaroos basketball team might have found momentum as they return from Christmas break.

After entering the break with a trio of losses to start district, the Lady Bucks finished in third place in the Anson Lions Club Christmas Tournament Dec. 27-28 at Anson High School. Participating with the Lady Bucks at the tournament were Newcastle, Roby, Lingleville, Spur, Post, Abilene Christian and Anson.

The Lady Bucks finished the tournament with a 2-1 record. Their loss came to 1A state-ranked Newcastle.

Bucks, Lady Bucks split games against Comanche

One Breckenridge High School basketball team entered the Christmas break riding high on a last-second victory while another is still in search of their first district win.

The Buckaroos and Lady Bucks traveled to Comanche Tuesday, Dec. 19 both looking for their first district win. For the Lady Bucks, they met the 3A No. 3 Maidens after opening the district schedule last week with losses to Millsap and Brock.

Lady Bucks open district

The Lady Bucks are experiencing a difficult start to the district schedule with back-to-back losses.
The Lady Bucks opened district play Tuesday, Dec. 12 with a 54-43 home loss to Clyde. They closed the week Friday, Dec. 15 with a 68-28 loss at Brock.

Bucks lose at home to Lions

The Buckaroos were forced to overcome difficulties as they prepared for this week’s district opening game at Comanche.
After losing Karter Smalley to an ankle injury in the Graham’s Red, White & Blue tournament, the Buckaroos have struggled to regain form.

The Bucks opened the week in San Angelo where they suffered a 60-33 loss to Texas Leadership Charter Academy San Angelo. They closed the week with a 72-52 loss to Huckabay.

Following the road game Tuesday, Dec. 19 at Comanche, the Buckaroos will compete in the Eula Holliday Classic taking place Dec. 27-29.

Bucks fall to Perrin-Whitt, compete in Graham tournament

The Buckaroos experienced a rough week of basketball last week with a loss at home to Perrin-Whitt and a 1-4 weekend at Graham’s Red, White & Blue basketball tournament.

A high-scoring first quarter gave way to tough shots in the remaining three quarters of the Buckaroos home loss Tuesday, Dec. 5 to the 1A No. 5 Pirates.

Lady Bucks lose in Bridgeport, travel to Fairfield

It was a difficult week for Lady Bucks basketball.

After a loss on the road Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Bridgeport, the Lady Bucks were swept in games Dec. 7-9 in Fairfield at the Fairfield basketball tournament.

The Lady Bucks and Sissies played a closely contested game that needed a session of overtime to find a winner. Kaysi Wilcox led the Lady Bucks with 19 points, including 5-of-10 shooting from behind the 3-point arc. Zaea Ragle added 15 points, including three from the free throw line.

Buckaroos, Lady Buckaroos compete in Lions Club Tournament

Winter is approaching and that means it is basketball season.
Breckenridge High School and the Lions Club of Breckenridge hosted the annual Lions Club Basketball Tournament last Thursday, Nov. 30 through Saturday, Dec. 2 at the BHS Athletic and Fine Arts Center.

Buckaroos football earn all-district honors

Although the Buckaroos football team had a rollercoaster season, several players were recognized last week with District 3-3A Division I honors last week. The awards were announced after the final district team was eliminated from the playoffs.

Sophomore Jamie Cruz highlights the list as the lone Buckaroos to earn a superlative honor as Offensive Newcomer of the Year.

Lion’s Club basketball tourney this weekend

The Buckaroos and Lady Bucks basketball teams are preparing for pre-district tournaments. Their slate of tournaments begin Thursday with the annual Lion’s Club basketball tournament at Breckenridge High School.

A total of 12 area schools will be in town this weekend with the Lady Bucks joining seven other schools in the girl’s tournament. The Buckaroos will take on five other schools in the boy’s tournament.

Joining the Lady Bucks in Girls Pool A is Hyde Park, Anson and Grape Creek. Jim Ned, Rider, Bowie and Gorman will compete in Girls Pool B.

BISD enacts spectator behavior policy

When this weekend’s Lion’s Club basketball tournament tips off at Breckenridge High School, fans of all schools will be subject to a stricter policy regarding spectator behavior.

Athletic Director Casey Pearce outlined the new policy during the Monday, Nov. 13 Breckenridge ISD Board of Trustees meeting.

Mirroring the 2023-2024 UIL Parent Handbook, the district’s “Behavior Expectations of Spectators” explains stricter consequences for disruptive behavior from attendees at all BISD sporting events.
