Lady Bucks split games with Clyde, Haskell

The Lady Bucks picked up their first win of the season last week while senior Zaea Ragle reached a scoring milestone.
The team closed the week and entered the Thanksgiving break with a home loss. After defeating Clyde on the road 61-31 for their first win of the season on Tuesday, Nov. 14 the Lady Bucks were defeated 49-43 Friday, Nov. 17.

Lady Bucks volleyball earn all-district, academic honors

Although the volleyball season ended for the Lady Buckaroos with a bi-district loss Tuesday, Oct. 31 to Holliday at Graham High School, the honors are beginning to roll in for the team.

District 8-3A announced its All-District Awards following its final team getting eliminated from the playoffs. In addition to the all-district recognitions, the Texas High School Coaches Association has announced it’s All-Academic Teams in volleyball for the 2023 season.

Lady Buckaroos open basketball season

Although the Lady Buckaroos opened their 2023-2024 season with a trio of losses, head coach Bryan Goehring remains confident in what he sees in his team after the first full week of practices and games against Merkel, Abilene and City View.

The tough stretch of games, Goehring said, will help the Lady Bucks grow as a team while they prepare for the district schedule.

Woodson FFA sweeps district competition

Woodson FFA competed and earned first place in six categories, as well as picking up a district championship, in the Wichita District (Area IV) LDEs, held Friday, Nov. 10 at Midwestern State University. The team also earned a Sweepstakes Championship in the single-teacher division.

In total, Woodson FFA will be sending 24 individuals and seven teams to the area competition.

Bucks drop season finale

The Breckenridge Buckaroos’ football season came to an end Friday, Nov. 3 in Clyde. Following a 35-14 loss, the Buckaroos ended the season with an overall record of 4-6 and 1-4 in the district.

The Buckaroos fell behind early after giving up a touchdown on the game’s opening drive.

The Bulldogs, who finished the season as district champions scored the game’s first touchdown with a 31-yard touchdown throw from Blake Carr to Kendrick Johnson.

Carr scored his second of five touchdowns on a goal-line run with 2:25 remaining in the first quarter.

Stewart finished 55th in state

Breckenridge High School sophomore Chance Stewart finished 55th overall today at the 2023 UIL State Championship in Round Rock. Stewart ran against 151 other runners in the race.

Buckaroos win home finale

The Buckaroos closed out the home portion of their schedule with a last-minute victory over Bowie. After an interception by Braye Cantrell with less than a minute in the game, the Buckaroos defeated the Jackrabbits 28-21 Friday, Oct. 27 at Buckaroo Stadium.

While the Buckaroos’ defense had to continue with the Jackrabbits’ pound-the-ball rushing attack, offensively, the Buckaroos had to contend without starting running back Sawyer Wimberley, who missed the game due to an injury.

Stewart advances to state cross country meet

Breckenridge High School cross country runner Chance Stewart will represent BHS this week at the 2023 Cross Country State Championships.

Stewart will compete Friday, Nov. 3 at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock. The 3A boy’s race will begin at 12:10 p.m.

Stewart advanced to the meet last week as one of the top runners from a non-qualifying team at the 3A Region I cross country meet Monday, Oct. 23 in Lubbock.
