Bucks lose at Jim Ned

The Buckaroos’ hopes of returning to the playoffs officially came to an end Friday, Oct. 20 against Jim Ned.

After scoring 14 points during the first quarter, the Bucks were kept from the end zone for a 42-14 loss to the Indians.
For one quarter, the Buckaroos offense looked as if it could keep up with the defending district champions.

Although forced to punt on their game-opening drive, the Buckaroos’ defense did its job and held the Indians to a three-and-out.

Lady Bucks clench playoffs

The Lady Buckaroos are heading to the playoffs.

After a three-set sweep Tuesday, Oct. 17 at home against Millsap, the Lady Bucks secured a fourth-place finish in the District 8-3A. The district schedule concluded with a senior night celebration Tuesday, Oct. 24.

The playoffs were secured with the win over Millsap and Early’s loss Saturday against Peaster. The Lady Bucks’ two wins over Early this season secured the tie-breaker if the two teams had finished with the same district record.

Buckaroos XC advance to region meet in Lubbock

While the cross country season came to an end for several runners this week, Breckenridge High School will have representation at the 3A Region I Championships, set for Monday Oct. 23 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

Bucks lose at home to Lions

The Vernon Lions’ running attack was too much for the Buckaroos last Friday. Following a 42-20 loss Oct. 13, the Buckaroos are still looking for their first district win of the season.

Using the running game to maintain possession of the ball and dominate the time of possession, the Lions remained in firm control of the game from the opening drive. The Lions received the ball to open the game and used 13 plays to drive 87 yards for the game’s first touchdown. Their opening drive took six minutes and 47 seconds, or just over half of the first quarter.

Lady Bucks earn road wins at Eastland, Comanche

The Lady Buckaroos have solid footing on the final playoff spot in the district. Following wins last week over Eastland and Comanche, the Lady Bucks remain a game ahead of Early in the District 8-3A standings with three matches remaining.

Bucks lose district-opener

A slow start was too much for the Buckaroos to overcome Friday, Oct. 6 when the team hosted Iowa Park for their District 3-3A season-opener against the Hawks. After getting shut out in the first half, the Buckaroos had a chance to take the lead in the closing minutes before ultimately falling 31-28.
The Buckaroos struggled on both sides of the ball in the first half. Offensively the Buckaroos ended two drives with a punt and two drives with a turnover.

BPD makes arrest on recent aggravated robbery

The Breckenridge Police Department has arrested a Breckenridge man suspected of a recent break-in and aggravated robbery over the last several weeks.

Carlos Xavier Acosta, 24, was booked Tuesday, Oct. 3 into the Stephens County Jail on five charges.
Acosta remained in jail as of Monday, with a total bond amount of $150,000 on charges that include aggravated robbery, burglary of a building, two counts of intentionally/knowingly abandoning or endangering a child, and possession of a controlled substance of one gram or more, but less than four grams.

BJHS runners experience Stephenville's Thrill of the Hill

The Breckenridge Junior High School cross country team competed in its final tune-up for next week's district meet this week when they traveled to Stephenville for the Thrill of the Hill Invitational. On Wednesday, Oct. 4, BJHS was represented by a total of 12 runners in three races at Stephenville City Park.
The 7th grade girls team finished 6th overall, while both boys' teams did not have enough runners to qualify for team scores.
BJHS cross country will close the season next week at the district meet in Dublin. The junior high races are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

Lady Bucks split matches with Peaster, Dublin

The Lady Buckaroos are in control of their destiny in their fight for a spot in the playoffs. After splitting a pair of matches Tuesday, Sept. 26 at home against Peaster and Friday, Sept. 29 at Dublin, the Lady Buckaroos finished the week with a 3-4 district record.

The team is now in a tie for fourth in the district with seven matches to play going into October.

BHS XC compete in Dublin FCA meet

The Breckenridge cross country teams got an early preview of what awaits them at next month’s district meet when they took part in the Dublin FCA cross country meet Wednesday, Sept. 20 in Dublin. The Buckaroos’ varsity boys team took first overall in the meet with a score of 24 points. The varsity girls finished third overall with 84 points.
“This is the district course,” BHS cross country coach Donny Funderburg said. “We did not respond as well as I would have liked, but we get to run there again as we prepare for an opportunity to return to Lubbock for the regional meet.”
