Tue, 04/21/2020 - 9:10 am

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed three executive orders on Friday, April 17 to establish the “Strike Force to Open Texas,” a team of nationally recognized medical experts, private and public leaders who will advise the governor on safely and strategically reopening the state of Texas.

The news comes as the Texas government will attempt to restart the economy and loosen restrictions in phases.

With the governors’ executive orders, the city of Breckenridge will reopen parks and camps around the community, starting Monday, April 20. This will be the first attempt to reestablish normalcy from the COVID-19 virus.

Citizens are required to wear face coverings, maintain a six-foot distance and are prohibited from gathering in groups larger than five.

The parks and camps were closed in early March by Gov. Abbott due to the outbreak of COVID-19 around Texas.

“We will open up the walking trail, the disc golf course, and the skateboard park as long as people continue to practice social distancing methods,” Andy McCuistion, Breckenridge City Manager said. “ We will keep the playground equipment, the pavilion and basketball court closed at this and will try to reopen things one at a time.”

The governor’s second executive orders will allow for the strategic reopening of select services and activities in Texas. Establishing a temporary “Retail-To-Go” model, allowing retail outlets to reopen beginning Friday, April 24. Retail businesses will be able to reopen establishments and are required to deliver items to customer’s cars, homes, or other locations to minimize contact.

The governor’s third executive order will loosen restrictions on surgeries beginning Monday, April 21 through Friday, May 8, allowing all licensed health care facilities to continue postponed surgeries and procedures.
