BFAC exhibits extended to Dec. 30

Wed, 12/16/2020 - 5:00 am

Anyone who enjoys woodworking or bronze work will enjoy the extensive exhibit by Jerry Smyers of Holliday.

Smyers’ first venture into the art world began in first grade when he stayed in from recess and used the chalk to draw a horse on the blackboard. He has taken his skillet into intricate work with wood and bronze.

His wife, Kathy Smyers, is an artist in her own field of weaving wool threads, one line at a time, to make seamless, artistic renditions of a sketch or photograph made just as real in the woven wool scene.

Both artists are exhibiting in the East Gallery of the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center through Wednesday, Dec. 30. The exhibits were extended due to the BFAC being closed for two weeks due to COVID-19.

Executive Director, Shalon Wilson, was glad to extend the viewing time for local and area art lovers so they could see the intricate, artistic work done by both artists. “These two exhibits are amazing,” said Wilson.

The third exhibit is in the Main Gallery and is a one-woman show by Bev Boren, who includes oils and watercolors as well as an occasional charcoal portrait.

The BFAC is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
