Wed, 12/09/2020 - 5:00 am

The City of Breckenridge approved resolution 20-28, on Tuesday, December 1, a canvassing of the returns for the 2020 city election.

For the 2020 General Election, three essential positions within the city of Breckenridge were on the ballot; mayor, and city commissioner for Places 1 and 2.

“The city commission officially finds and determines that said election was duly ordered, that proper notice of said election was duly given, those proper election officers were duly appointed prior to said election(...) the City Commissioner has duly canvassed said returns, all in accordance with the law and the Ordinance calling said election,” according to the resolution 20-28.

With Mayor Bob Sims and Russell Blue, City Commissioner of Place 1, running uncontested, the only competitive race was for City Commissioner of Place 2.

Incumbent Rob Durham defeated his opponent, Gary Mercer after receiving 1,000 votes to Mercer’s 601.

Rob Durham was voted Mayor Pro-Tem for the 2020-2021 year.

The City of Breckenridge also canvassed the results for a proposition that was on the ballot.

The proposition asks for “the adoption of an additional sales and to use tax within the city at the rate of one-fourth (1/4) of one percent to provide revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets.”

The proposition passed as 1,179 citizens voted for the proposition and 466 voted against the proposition.

The proposition was due to be on the ballot for the Tuesday, May 11 special election, but was moved to the 2020 General Election to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Commissioners also took action on PublicWorks1, which will allow for a street condition survey not to exceed $50,000.

Public Works 1 helps local governments speed up asset management processes and cut costs by using computer vision technology, by collecting high-quality geo-tagged 360-degree, panoramic images of streets in local jurisdictions.

The Breckenridge City Commissioners will continue to meet every third Tuesday of each month.
