City Commissioners take action on state-sponsored COVID-19 testing, replaster City pool

Wed, 11/11/2020 - 5:00 am

As the competitions for the 2020 General Election were raging on Tuesday, November 3, the Breckenridge City Commission was inside the Breckenridge City Offices Commission Chamber.

In deep discussions, city commissioners took action on approving an agenda item to provide COVID-19 testing through the State-sponsored GoGetTested program. The agency is funded through State sponsors and collects payment from insured individuals.

“We have more cases,” Scott Dixon, Interim City Manager, said. “It’s kind of a no-brainer and doesn’t cost us anything. It is a mobile testing site, and citizens will be able to go to a website, register, and provide insurance information. If you aren’t covered by insurance, they will perform the test for free.”

The City Commission also approved an agenda item to repair the City pool. Atlantis Pool will provide pool replastering, and work will consist of removal of racing lane tile, paint removal, installation of non-slip tile trim on steps and at the 5 ft marker. The new plaster will be in the diamond brite cool blue quartz finish.

The quote, from Atlantis Pool Plastering, was $49,900 and will consist of a 50% down payment of $24,950, with the remaining balance due after the first of the year.

“It’s our recommendation that we move forward with replastering the pool,” Dixon said. “Simply because it will help prolong the life of the pool. The replaster is just under $50,000 to do it, and we have the money in our budget, and payments will come over two fiscal years. We have to be aware that when we do budgeting next year, there is $25,000 we have to come up for the pool.”

The city commissioners discussed and approved the formation of a City/ County Committee to review combined services models for Public Safety (Police and Sheriff), Municipal and County Courts, streets, roads, and bridges.

Mayor Bob Sims and Commissioner Rob Durham will serve as the two elected officials who will represent the city during a review of the combining of services.

City Commissioners will continue to meet on the first and third Tuesday of every month.
