City makes bulk trash pickup monthly starting this year

Wed, 01/16/2019 - 12:00 am

The city of Breckenridge is partnering with Republic Services to conduct a monthly bulk pickup for residents in Breckenridge this year, according to a release from the city.

Residents are allowed up to three bulk items with no loose trash. The city is asking to please place bulk items at least three feet away from the poly cart. All items must be at curbside the day before collection. A specific collection vehicle will collect the items, as well as bagged or bundled yard waste. The vehicle will only collect once from each residential unit, according to the release.

Some waste items include stoves, refrigerators (with the CFS’s removed and tagged), water tanks, washing machines, furniture, bundled trees, shrubs or brush trimmings. Any other waste materials must be bundled and tied together to make the package easier to handle, and must not exceed three feet in length or 50 pounds in weight, the release states.

Some items that will not be picked up are construction debris, dead animals, hazardous waste, stable matter, chemicals, paints, thinners, tires, batteries, oil and oil filters, antifreeze, drums, asbestos, untreated medical wastes, contaminated soils, sludge, liquids and automobile engine parts.

Heather Robertson-Caraway at the city offices said this is a change from previous years, as prior to this year bulk pickup has always been quarterly rather than monthly. Though, she added the city has been working with Republic Services for many years.
