Five days to choose your candidate

There is nothing more patriotic then practicing one’s democratic right. With election season swiftly approaching, the race for the U.S. House District 11 seat is sure to be a contested battle.

According to the Federal Elections Commission, 12 republicans, one democrat, one libertarian and one independent will be running in the primaries.

The list includes Brandon Batch (R), Jamie Berryhill (R), J.D. Faircloth (R), Casey Gray (R), J. Ross Lacy (R), Ned Luscombe (R), August Pfluger (R), Robert Tucker (R), Wesley Virdell (R), Jon Mark Hogg (D), Wacey Cody (L) and Jeffery Cady (I).

As for the March primaries, the candidates will be eyeing the seat to replace Rep. Mike Conaway. The U.S. Representative elected to not seek re-election after securing the seat in 2005.

The next congressman of District 11 will have tough shoes to fill as Conaway recently authored a bill that was signed into law by President Donald J. Trump.

H.R. 2334 was signed to honor Odessa Marine Corps, Private First Class Alfred “Mac” Wilson and United States Army Staff Sergeant Marvin Rex Young. These two patriots sacrificed their own lives during the Vietnam War. Both were honored with the Medal of Honor, and the Odessa Veterans Affair Clinic was renamed to the “Wilson- Young Medal of Honor VA Clinic.
