Lang’s campaign manager speaks at Rotary

The Rotary Club of Breckenridge received a visit from Zach Maxwell, during the regularly scheduled Tuesday, September 22 meeting. Maxwell is the campaign manager for Mike Lang, the outgoing Texas District 60 representative.

Mike Lang is a member of the Texas House of Representatives, representing District 60 and is the chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus.

Lang decided not to seek reelection and is expected to be replaced by Glenn Rodgers.

“I think we have a good representative coming in,” Zach Maxwell, Mike Lang’s campaign manager said. “We’re going to turn over everything that we have to him, all of our casework, so he’ll be well prepared going into the next legislative session.”

Maxwell spoke to the club on an array of topics regarding issues important to citizens of Stephens County, including tax appraisals.

“If you make improvements on your property and go beyond the across the board rate of increase,” Maxwell said. “Then yes, your property tax will and should go up due to improvements on your property. However, a lot of people like to blame the state, because the comptroller comes in and they tell the local appraisers, if they are not within a percentage or two, then we will come in and audit you and force you to raise appraisals.”

Maxwell also provided the group with knowledge regarding the tax rate within the county.

“The property tax rate, the amount citizens pay is based on local officials setting the tax rate,” Maxwell said. “It has nothing to do with the state or the appraisals. That rate determines how much citizens are taxed.”
