Local first responders received a no-cost CPR and Stop the Bleed class Tuesday, Nov. 29 at the Breckenridge Elks Lodge. The class was taught by Eric Herge and hosted and sponsored by the Elks Lodge.

The Elks Lodge was able to use the Elks Gratitude Grant, which covered the cost of the instructor, testing materials, and provided each person with a Stop the Bleed kit. The kit contains first aid materials to be used in the event of an emergency.

In rural communities, volunteer first responders are often the first person to reach someone in need of emergency assistance, oftentimes using first aid equipment purchased with their own money. Use of the grant to provide kits to those who attended the class offsets some of those costs for volunteers.

Personnel from the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Breckenridge Police Department, Shackleford County Sheriff’s Office, and Wayland and Hubbard Creek Volunteer Departments were in attendance to participate in the class.
