The Breckenridge Economic Development Corporation (EDC) recently announced the retirement of longtime CEO and Executive Director Virgil Moore.

Moore has served as the leader of the EDC, working diligently with existing industry, and to attract new business and industry to Breckenridge, for more than fourteen years.

“Serving as the EDC Executive Director has been extremely rewarding over the past decade and a half. I have greatly enjoyed working within our community to market industry and small businesses to call Breckenridge home. Now is the time to let someone else step up to the plate and carry on the work of the Breckenridge EDC,” said Moore.

“Virgil has done a great job guiding the EDC in Breckenridge through a large part of its existence and the board appreciates his many years of dedicated service,” said EDC Board President Nic McClymond, “The board is very excited to bring in Colton Buckley to serve in this capacity and see where we can go. Colton’s extensive public affairs background will uniquely position the EDC for developing partnerships and business recruitment.”

Buckley will join the EDC on April 1, 2021 from nearly a decade in the government affairs realm, including positions with former Texas Governor Rick Perry’s administration, Texas Commissioner of Agriculture Sid Miller, and Turning Point USA, where he has served as the lead liaison to governors’ offices and state legislatures. He currently serves as the 2nd Vice- President of the National Association of Resource Conservation and Development Councils (RC&D) as well as the Vice-President of the Texas Association. Buckley holds a master’s degree in communication from Liberty University, where he is currently pursuing a PhD in public policy, and a bachelor’s in agricultural services and development from Tarleton State University.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the Breckenridge EDC. The organization is poised to really develop its vision and build on current efforts to sustain and expand business and industry within our community. I am a lifelong advocate of rural Texas and am looking forward to being a part of the effort to bring the organization to the next level, making a positive difference for even more people in Breckenridge,” Buckley said.
