No challengers apply for May 4 election

Wed, 02/20/2019 - 5:00 am

Graford Independent School District, city of Graford, Strawn ISD and city of Strawn were all accepting applications to be on the ballot for the May 4 election. The deadline to file was 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15 and the incumbents were the only ones to apply for each entity.

Travis Rogers and Jeff Lemley’s terms for the Graford ISD school board were set to expire. The incumbents were the only ones who applied to be on the election ballot. The school board will likely cancel their order for election and swear in Lemely and Rogers to another term.

The city of Graford had the city council seats held by Alice Sain, David Carlyle and Gregory Dunn up for election. However, the three incumbents were the only ones to apply for the election ballot. The city council will now likely cancel their order for election and swear Sain, Carlyle and Dunn into another term.

Strawn ISD ordered an election for Place 2 on the school board. The seat is currently held by Craig Abbott and he was the only one to apply before the deadline. Since Abbott was the only one to apply, the school board will likely cancel the election order and declare the incumbent elected to another term.

The city of Strawn had ordered an election for the seats held by Omar Mallory, Alan Alison and Regina Baker. All three applied to seek another term as an alderperson and were the only three to do so. The city council will likely cancel their order for election and swear Mallory, Alison and Baker into another term.

The last day to register to vote in the May 4 uniform election is April 4. The first day of early voting will be April 22.
