Stephens County experiences a decline in COVID-19 active cases

Wed, 01/27/2021 - 5:00 am

Stephens County COVID-19 active cases declined over the third week of January after reaching nearly 100 active cases during the second week of January.

From January 15 to January 22, the active case count moved from 89 to 41 after a surge of cases hit the county after the Christmas break.

“We continue to move in the right direction,” Stephens Memorial Hospitals District stated in a statement. “We know there are a lot of people in the community anxious to get the vaccine. We have compiled waiting lists and are just waiting to receive more vaccine. We wish we had more information to provide, but we are just having to wait our turn to receive another allocation.”

A list released by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services shows the weekly allocations of the COVID-19 vaccine across Texas.

Neither Stephens Memorial Hospital or Breckenridge Medical Center made the list to receive any more COVID-19 vaccines during the week of January 18.

Texas DSHS released an update list on Monday, January 25 and neither Stephens Memorial Hospital or Breckenridge Medical Center are on the list again this week.

As on January 22, SMH has performed over 231 vaccines.
