TEA instructs districts on summer safety actions

After Gov. Greg Abbott charged the Texas School Safety Center and Texas Education Agency with directives to support the safety and security of public schools in June, the TEA released required school safety actions this summer for districts Thursday.

The Stephens County Tax Office will be closing at 11:30 a.m. today Wednesday, July 6 for training, according to Stephens County Tax Assessor-Collector, Christie Latham.

State allocates additional funding for school safety, mental health initiatives

The state announced plans last Tuesday to transfer $105.5 million to support additional school safety and mental health initiatives through August 2023. The additional funding is in response to the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde which prompted the state to take actions to make schools safer while supporting the mental health of students, teachers and families.

DSHS confirms positive rabies case

Breckenridge Animal Control was recently advised by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) of a positive rabies case in a dog within the city limits of Breckenridge. According to a release from Breckenridge Animal Control Officer, Nicole Dooley, the dog was showing active signs of rabies and was submitted for testing, which returned positive results last Wednesday, June 29.
