The city of Breckenridge will see another increase in sales tax returns this month from the same period a year prior. These allocations are based on sales made in May by businesses that report tax monthly.

The Stephens County Humane Society spoke to Breckenridge City Commissioners last week about possible options to assist both the community and the organization with the city’s stray animal problem. The discussion was had during the regular Tuesday, July 5 meeting.

Three people were arrested last week by federal authorities in connection with a human smuggling incident that left 53 migrants dead.
The state announced plans last Tuesday to transfer $105.5 million to support additional school safety and mental health initiatives through August 2023. The additional funding is in response to the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde which prompted the state to take actions to make schools safer while supporting the mental health of students, teachers and families.
Breckenridge Animal Control was recently advised by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) of a positive rabies case in a dog within the city limits of Breckenridge. According to a release from Breckenridge Animal Control Officer, Nicole Dooley, the dog was showing active signs of rabies and was submitted for testing, which returned positive results last Wednesday, June 29.
