BISD appoints two new trustees

The Breckenridge ISD school board of trustees is now at full capacity after two vacant seats were recently filled.
At the BISD school board meeting Monday, July 14, the board approved the appointment of Ty Bartoskewitz to place 3 trustee and Paul Lippe to place 4 trustee.
Bartoskewitz has also served as president of the Breckenridge Economic Development Corporation since October of last year.

Commissioner’s court approves additional funding assistance to Humane Society

The Stephens County Commissioners Court recently agreed to provide more funding assistance to the Stephens County Humane Society.
The Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies solely on donations, grants and fundraising.
The recent approval of assistance comes after Humane Society President Kathy O’Shields reached out about needing help covering the expenses for fostering a handful of dogs.

Body of missing Breckenridge man found

Following the discovery of the body of a man originally from Breckenridge and a multi-agency investigation, murder and tampering charges have been filed against the man’s wife.

The remains of 60-year-old Craig Thetford, who grew up and lived in Breckenridge until his retirement, were found Tuesday, June 17 near the home he shared with his wife, Deana, in Cloudcroft, New Mexico, according to a criminal complaint filed in Otero County, New Mexico.

SMH radiology staff acclaims new mammography machine

Leading the way for Stephens Memorial Hospital’s new 3D mammography machine is mammography technologist Melissa Miller, who has been instrumental in its success. 

Just over two months since it was installed at the hospital, the Aspire Cristalle 3D mammography machine has received rave reviews from both staff and patients alike at the hospital. 

Miller does mammograms one day a week and generally schedules about 15 or 16 each week. As of last week, the hospital’s radiology department has had over 100 patients come in for mammograms on the new machine.

City presents preliminary FY 2025-26 budget

Breckenridge City Manager Cynthia Northrop recently introduced a preliminary budget to city commissioners and the public for Fiscal Year 2025-2026. 

The FY 2025-2026 budget, based on preliminary tax values was presented by Northrop at the Breckenridge City Commission meeting Tuesday, July 1 and is available for review on the city’s website. 

The Stephens County Appraisal District will provide the certified values Friday, July 25.

That is Breckenridge local Milly Cate McClymond’s harrowing account of being at the epicenter of the devastating flooding at Camp Mystic in Kerr County over the Fourth of July weekend. 

The daughter of Breckenridge ISD school president Nic McClymond, the young Milly Cate remained strong despite living through such horrific events.
