Breckenridge Junior High Band earns Sweepstakes at UIL

BHS Band Director Joe Barrow and his wife, Melissa, the Breckenridge Junior High Band Director, are in their first year of being a husband-wife band directing team. Both the BJHS and BHS bands have seen plenty of success since they took over in early August, before the school year and marching band season.

City animal control toughens up on animal population

In the three months since Steve Jennings was named the City of Breckenridge Animal Control Operations (ACO) new supervisor, improvements have been made within the shelter. Those improvements include ACO now being fully staffed, with Police Chief Blake Johnson saying they have recently hired a new animal control officer.

The Breckenridge High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) will be competing in contests Thursday, April 10 through Saturday, April 12 at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Dallas.

City mulls over options for new fire station

While everyone is on the same page regarding the Breckenridge Fire Department needing an upgrade to the current fire station, the city commission is split on how to move forward. A decision will soon be made on whether to demolish the existing building and construct a completely new metal building on the remaining slab, construct a new metal building on the same property but leave the empty building or renovate the existing building.

City seeks grant for sidewalk project

While there are certain areas with sidewalks that create alternative ways to get around than just driving in Breckenridge, the city is looking to expand upon that. The Transportation Alternatives (TA) program has funded local project sponsors for planning projects, including sidewalks, onand off-street bikeways, shared use paths and other non-motorized safety infrastructure for communities throughout Texas.
