BISD honors Gibson

Breckenridge Junior High School principal Laura Gibson was honored during a ceremony Thursday, Nov. 14. Gibson was recently named the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Region 14 Outstanding Principal of the Year.

Felons, Flappers, Foul Play

The community will be transported back to the Roaring ‘20s this weekend during Breckenridge High School theatre department’s dinner and a show. There will be two opportunities to catch Felons, Flappers and Foul Play, a murder-mystery based in Mickey’s Ritzy Speakeasy.

FFA hosting food drive

Breckenridge FFA is hosting a food drive through next week in order to address food insecurity within the community. The food drive will be open through Thursday, Nov.

Forging ahead

Veteran Greg Coker is sharing his passion for forging knives and its positive impact on his life with others. All veterans and first responders can attend free instructional classes at his home in the adjoining Young County as a way to build fellowship and give them purpose.

Strickland gives back to veterans through VSO, AVR

After a 34-year career in the United States Marine Corps, Les Strickland’s service was far from over. Today, Strickland gives back to both the Breckenridge community through work with the Rotary Club of Breckenridge and work for veterans as the Stephens County Veterans Service Officer and as a Command Sergeant Major for the local American Volunteer Reserve.

GOP win raises stakes for Cornyn’s leadership bid

With Republicans regaining majority control of the Senate, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, is making his bid to become that chamber’s majority leader. U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, had previously announced he would step down as party leader. Republicans will hold at least a 53-45 edge in January, with Senate races in two states still undecided as of Friday morning.
