Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $762.5 million in local sales tax allocations for March, 0.5 percent less than in March 2020. These allocations are based on sales made in January by businesses that report tax monthly.

Texas gas prices have risen 9.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.61/g today, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Gas prices in Texas are 42.1 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 63.6 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

Even though most of the town of Eliasville is across the line into Young County, I must consider the input into Stephens County history by the settlers, who had their land in both counties or lived in Stephens County and had a business in the town of Eliasville.
Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve heard from many of you about the power outages and the physical and financial suffering caused by the unprecedented winter storm our state experienced. Like most of you, I am disappointed, frustrated and question how this could have happened in Texas, a state with vast natural resources and a diverse power supply.
