The back hall at Stephens Memorial Hospital was abuzz with activity Thursday morning, Dec. 31, with the spector of 10 shots of the Moderna Vaccine allotted to 10 lucky staff members led by Dr. William E. Prater, who were all lined up for their shot.

I have never read columns as entertaining as those penned by the late Erma Bombeck, who survived by cancer surgery, only to be claimed by kidney disease at age 69. Her battle was valiant as she underwent five years of dialysis before ultimately failing to survive transplant surgery that came too late. (Never mind she refused to be moved up on the list, instead insisting on waiting her turn.)
Texas gas prices have risen 0.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $1.92/g today, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 13,114 stations. Gas prices in Texas are 12.1 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 34.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
Jesse D. Cates, age 64 was arrested by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 23 on a warrant in connection with the warrant and arrest of Robert W. Standridge on Dec. 15.

Every December since 1885, Anson,Texas swells for a threeday ‘sworray’ more commonly called “The Cowboys’ Christmas Ball.” It was originally held in the Morning Star Hotel by the founder of the event, Lenora Barrett and ran annually until a city ordinance ordered ’no dancing in Anson,’ in 1933. Mostly, the City Council had members of the Church of Christ, who did not allow dancing and they voted for this ordinance to prevent any dancing in Anson. This prevailed until 1940 when a group of Ansonites united to get the ordinance amended, altered and repealed which would allow dancing to continue at the annual ’sworray’ at the newly built Pioneer Hall.
On the evening of Dec. 15, Stephens County Deputy Justin Rose went to serve two misdemeanor warrants for theft against Robert W. Standridge, age 64, at his residence at 1796 FM 3201. The situation went quickly from a misdemeanor to a second degree felony.
The Rotary Club of Breckenridge received a visit from Toys for Tots and the All His Children Angel Tree during the Tuesday, December 15, weekly meeting.
