The city’s new Christmas tree was lit for the first time during the Breckenridge Mingle and Jingle on Thursday, Nov. 17. Citizens came out for a night of shopping and mingling in downtown Breckenridge, with live Christmas music played by members of the Breckenridge band.

Turkey Trot

South Elementary students participated in their annual Turkey Trot race Friday, Nov. 18, being led by Principal Dr. Joshua Holt and Jennifer Dawson. Some students were joined in the race by family members, while spectators lined the road in front of the school and cheered as each student crossed the finish line.

Toys for Tots accepting donations

Members from the Cossacks and Scimitars motorcycle clubs kicked off the 75th annual Toys for Tots fundraiser Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Breckenridge VFW. Collectively, they raised over $450 in monetary donations, five books, and seventy toys for children.

SMH recognized by county

Stephens County Judge Michael Roach recognized Stephens Memorial Hospital in honor of National Rural Health Day, during the commissioners’ meeting Monday, Nov. 14.

City to conduct chlorine burn

Beginning Monday, Nov. 28, the city of Breckenridge will conduct a chlorine burn in the water system. The disinfection process will continue through Wednesday, Dec. 28. Water remains safe to drink during this treatment process.

BISD considering four-day week

Amid a growing issue of recruiting and retaining teachers, four-day school weeks are gaining popularity in rural Texas. According to a July report from Texas American Federation of Teachers, nearly 43,000 teachers in Texas alone left their jobs, with 66% of teachers in a statewide poll saying they would consider leaving theirs.
