David Vern ‘Butch’ Spencer 

David Vern “Butch” Spencer, 80, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 22 at 11 a.m. at Morehart Mortuary Chapel.

David Vern “Butch” Spencer was born Feb. 22, 1938 in Breckenridge to John Walter and Theodotia Hood Spencer. He was born in the front bedroom of the family home at 911 E. Hullum. When he was born, his brother John suggested he be named “Butch” after a character from a comic strip and it stuck with him the rest of his life. 

Sue Compton Hibbert 

Sue Compton Hibbert, 79, went to meet her savior and a host of family and friends on Thursday, March 15, 2018. 

Funeral with Charles Kuhn and Father DeWayne Adams officiating was held Monday, March 19, at 2 p.m. in the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Interment followed in the Battle Creek Cemetery. 

The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday, March 18, from 4-6 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. 

Nalda Mae Cockrell 

Nalda Mae Cockrell, 90, of Breckenridge, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 21 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Rodgers and Rocky Holland officiating. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. 

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Morehart Mortuary.

Nalda Mae Bryant was born Jan. 20, 1928 in Rule, to Claude H. Bryant and Beulah Mae Vaughn Bryant. On Dec. 5, 1945, Nalda married Thomas William Cockrell in Breckenridge. 

Gary Castillo

Gary Castillo made Breckenridge his home over 35 years ago. He worked throughout his life as a skilled floor specialist, laying carpet and tile for manufactured homes. 

Gary was a simple man and he enjoyed simple things. From being outdoors camping and fishing to preparing the best barbecued chicken at family cookouts. He loved to cook and had a pretty good green thumb for gardening. Gary had a kind and loving heart when it came to animals. He opened his home to many and loved them all dearly. 

Pearl Branys Edwards

Pearl Branys Edwards passed away in Mineral Wells on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 17 at the First Christian Church of Breckenridge, with graveside following in the Breckenridge Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Morehart Mortuary. Donations may be made to the First Christian Church of Breckenridge Sanctuary Restoration Fund or Meals on Wheels of Breckenridge. 

Brenda Ann Ledbetter 

Brenda Ann Ledbetter passed from this life to the next on Friday, March 9, 2018 in Petrolia. Funeral service with Rick Earp officiating will be held Saturday, March 17, at 11 a.m. in the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m. Friday. Arrangements are under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. 

William L. Fulbright

William L. Fulbright, 81, passed from this life to the next Wednesday, March 7, 2018. Funeral service with Rev. Kevin Kennedy officiating will be held Saturday, March 10, at 11 a.m. in the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 5-7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home of Breckenridge.

Margaret 'Nancy' Craig

Margaret “Nancy” Alta Hooks Craig of Breckenridge was born June 18, 1924 in Ranger, to James Willis Hooks and Willie Alta Howard Hooks Clifton. She passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the age of 93.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Morehart Mortuary, 1101 W. Walker in Breckenridge.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 16, at 10 a.m. in the Eastland Cemetery with Jim Caraway officiating. Services have been entrusted to Morehart Mortuary.

Ruth Ball

Ruth Lucinda Fairless Ball entered into Glory on March 5, 2018. She has now seen Jesus and is singing hallelujah in her red high heels.

Ruth was born on April 4, 1922 in Ranger to B.H. Fairless and Rose Emberlin Fairless. She worked for the railroad during World War II, helping with mail delivery in Louisiana. She eloped with Glen Ball in 1947 and they made their home in Breckenridge.
