Christmas lights are popping on with new ones appearing each evening. The tree downtown was raised by the seniors, but I have to make arrangements to power it up!

Be vigilant! The Light is coming!

School lets out on after exams are complete Dec. 14! Exam days are mandatory and the only option for taking the finals. Don’t miss those days! Those tests are 25% of a semester grade! Semester exams are Dec. 1314! Vacation begins Dec. 15 for students and school resumes Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Congratulations to the Junior High UIL competitors, who are leading the district competition so far! Final tallies will be made Tuesday, Dec. 6, after the completion of the One Act Play Competition, also in Newcastle. Congratulations to our elementary students who helped the team place 6th in the district. Good job.

Thanks go out to all the students, parents and teachers who made the community performance of the junior high play on Sunday a success! And the school performance! And the competition!

The junior high played basketball at home Monday. High school played at home Tuesday. JV Boys play Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Graham tournament. Varsity teams play Baird at home at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9. They also play at home Dec. 16 against Graford. For JH, the last ball game before Christmas will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 12 in Garner.

Brody Mathiews is competing in Junior Nationals in Las Vegas! Catch those heads and heels!

Urban Pioneers perform at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8 in the WISD Library. Songs and Stories will be Christmas themed, so bring your toddlers! Wear red and green! Visitors sign in through the office! Thank you, Urban Pioneers, for volunteering to encourage the ARTS! Thankful for Christmas and all that it brings.

High school OAP practice at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12 and will finish in time for the FFA party.

FFA district banquet was Monday. The FFA Christmas party begins at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12.

County stock show is Jan. 6 and Jan. 7. If you’d like to donate, please send your checks to TCJLS, c/o Tacy Ellis, 427 S. US Hwy 183, Woodson, TX 76491. Or, just come to the show in January. The kids work hard and so appreciate your backing them. Thank you show board and supporters!

Don’t forget that stock show set up is mandatory for all exhibitors and will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, at the county barn. Clean up is also mandatory, and will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8.

Have SHOES you don’t wear that are taking up precious closet space? Pair them up and donate them to the Booster Club Fundraisrer! Take the shoes to Hometown Hardware, FSB in Throckmorton, or to Higginbotham’s in Breckenridge. When 2,500 pairs of shoes have amassed, Woodson kids will earn $1,000. We are over 500 pairs on our “Shoe Meter.” Thankful for all donations!

Here comes Christmas! We just had our last Thanksgiving celebration Friday, Dec. 2. There are plays, and basketball, and baby goats and rabbits, and getting ready for stock shows, and travel, and shopping, and our freezer went out, and the weather is up and down, and we have lots of eggs when it’s sunny, and the wind doth blow… but, the Light is near!
