Woodson News: Grandparents

Belated Happy Grandparents Day to all of you who may fit the title! What does it mean to be a grandparent? Well, first of all it means that you probably did a great job raising your own children because they survived long enough to have their own children to share with you. Way to go! Congratulations!

Being a grandparent also means that you get a special name from a young child who loves you just because someone has told that child that he should love you. It’s an open, honest, unearned love, that once experienced, is irreplaceable. Mine was “Grawa” for a bit and then changed to “Grandma.” My husband is “Poppy” right now.

Being a grandparent also means that sometimes we drop everything for just a moment with those precious kids. It means that the house may be a mess. It means that other things may not get done. But the time with them is precious.

It also means we should carry a pencil and a tablet to write everything down when they ask. It sometimes is so funny. It is always sincere.

Well, on with the news or I will be out of room!

If you have gently used or new shoes, clean the closet, earn money for WISD kids, and send shoes to folks who need them! Take your clean shoes to Angela Miles! Drop them off at the hardware store in Woodson, or at the FSB in Throckmorton, or at Higginbotham’s in Breckenridge. This is our BOOSTER CLUB FUNDRAISER. When 2,500 pairs of shoes have amassed, Woodson will earn $1,000. We are close to 400 pairs on our “Shoe Meter.”
