Hear that Symphony of Life?

Wed, 02/03/2021 - 5:00 am

January was School Board Appreciation Month. One last thank you to Woodville Independent School District School Board Members. President Gary Brockman, VP Brady Miller, Secretary Jim Tom Boland, and members John Michaels, Heather Webb, Bridget Carruthers, and Janet Sullivan, we appreciate you.

Kylie showed her Ag Mech project in the Ft. Worth show that was held in Glenrose. She earned a blue ribbon.

Hanna Miller placed first with her Red Angus heifer at FW.

Claire Ellis placed first with her Polled Hereford heifer.

Keaton Kuykendall placed fourth with his young Polled Hereford heifer and fifth with his older Polled Hereford heifer.

Julianna Miller placed second with her Polled Hereford heifer.

What was really cool in the cattle show is that all three Woodson kids who showed in the showmanship divisions were called back. Julianna Miller was called back and showed her best all the way to Reserve Champion Junior Showman. She earned a buckle. Keaton Kuykendall was called back in the junior division. Claire Ellis was also called back.

Stock show cleanup was well attended. The barn is clean thanks to all the exhibitors.

Basketball: Four nights last week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. This week the junior high plays their last game on Thursday, at home, against Graford, in Woodson. High school played in Graford on Monday, then on Tuesday, played Graford at home, and that was “Senior Night.” The HS boys will play at home on Friday against Bryson, and the HS girls will play Saturday at home against Newcastle at 1 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.. All the other games begin at 6 p.m..

As far as prayer, it brought Josh Carruthers safely home from Korea.

Casey Adams may have been seen back at work. Alene is doing well after her surgery; I talked to her, but the goats got loose and I didn’t get to finish our conversation. Add the Berends to your prayers. Keep praying for Milford Hoskins, as he stays in Weatherford a bit longer. Add Danny Bellah, Charlie Jones and Burl Moses to your list.

Our prayers continue for Alene, Aletha Creech, Thora and Paul Thurn, Pam Allen, Ray Lipps, Pig McWhorter, Ron and Vicki Saddler, Earlene Bellah, Dale Deaton, Sr., Ada Smith, and June and Arliss, my Aunt Ruth Ann, Donice Neely, Rod Brents, and Jay Gage.

Pray for all those who are going through bouts with COVID-19 right now. Please pray for our military. Please pray for our country and its leaders. And, as far as prayer, please pray for the Creech Family. Gene Creech passed away last Sunday. I have been to many Bible Studies which he led and in which he participated. He was a wonderful “Paw Paw,” a caring husband, a father and a friend. Please keep Aletha and all of his family in your prayers.

I forgot to wish a Happy Birthday to Hud Reneau. Hud turned a year old on January 29th. Happy Birthday, Hud. And, Belated Happy Birthday to Corey Schafer.

And, I missed Elwanna and Roy’s anniversary on January 14th. It was their 65th year of marriage. Congratulations and love to both of you.

I was checking the traps, but I couldn’t find the Mayor, and then he showed up in my yard. Hello to all from Mayor Mattiews.

There is a National Honor Society Blood Drive on March 1, 2021. It will be at school in one of the parking lots. Your donation could save up to three lives. Head out and head on over in March.

The One Act Play will perform in their contest on March 3, in Bryson. Break-a-leg.

Sometimes it takes a late evening start, and a four hour trip that should only take about two and a half hours, a blowout on a stock trailer, right by the exit leading to a good guy at a truck stop, with the right jack, to help change a tire, at the same time: a bout with a little food poisoning, worn out wipers being replaced by a nice man who needed the tip for doing it, the westbound lanes of the interstate being shut down, a blocked bridge, a dense fog, and great friends, (all in one evening) just to remind a person how good life can be. Belated Happy Ground

Hog’s Day.
