Take your clean, paired, gently used, or new shoes to Angela Miles, Hometown Hardware, FSB in Throckmorton, or to Higginbotham’s in Breckenridge. This is our Booster Club Fundraiser. When 2,500 pairs of shoes have amassed, Woodson will earn $1,000. We are close to 500 pairs on our “Shoe Meter.”

Thank you, Pam, Bob, Carol and everyone else! One more week! Old towels and bleach! Thank you for donations! Claire Ellis is conducting a towel drive for the animal shelters and a wildlife refuge. Bleach for cleaning will also be needed. Email me at tacylte@ gmail.com, if you need to schedule a pick up. Thank you to everyone who has donated thus far! The drive ends Oct. 31.

I remember trick or treating when I was about 10 years old in Abilene, and finishing our round on River Oaks Circle, and the four men who stole candy from my friends and me, at knifepoint! We were just two houses from home. One friend took off running and all of her candy was safe. She gave each of us a handful when we all got back to the house with her. I don’t think my friends ever went trick or treating again. But, it didn’t stop me. I continued to dress up and pound the neighborhoods where I lived for candy.

So, be safe this Halloween. Travel with buddies and may you find all the candy you can carry!

Finally, pray for rain! I am hoping this is the week the tank fills up.

Eternal optimism. I hope it is catching.
