Woodson News

Lock the doors and windows and take the keys out of your vehicles. The law is watching over Woodson now, as our town had several robberies last Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.› A car was stolen, a car was trashed and another left running in the driveway. Weapons were also stolen. Other items were taken. I hope the creepy thieves are apprehended soon.

Major stock shows for Woodson have begun. Last week Kylie Deaton took her metal gate to the ag mech contest and Zoe Carruthers took her projects. Today, Claire Ellis and Brody Mathiews take their heifers. Good luck, exhibitors.

Let’s celebrate some birthdays. Bonnie Siebert, Kaiser Mathiews, Dusty O’Dell, Julianna Miller, Gary Hagle, Gordon Thomas, Richard Sullivan, Jack Parrott, Seth Brockman, Rhonda Brockman, Earlene Bellah, Florene O’Dell, Resa Deaton, Happy January Birthday.

The next 4H meeting is Feb. 14 at the Youth Center in Throckmorton.

Mayor Mathiews reported three prominent members of Throckmorton came to Woodson and without even checking the zoning laws, built a “Cathouse.” If revenue begins to flow, the city could need to share in the profit.

UIL OAP is underway. The cast and crew are working on the stage and on lines.

The new portables at the school are coming along and Mrs. Mills has moved in to her classroom. No more rolling cart.

District basketball is in full swing.››

Kay Clark is in Fort Worth in one of the medical centers downtown. She has been there more than a week. Please pray for Kay and Teddy. Her esophagus needs to heal from radiation treatment, so that she is able to eat.

If you are able to help transport a nice lady from Throckmorton to Abilene for medical treatment, give me a call. In the meantime, please continue praying for Terry Armstrong as she undergoes treatment.

And, one of the kids’ favorite teachers, Christy Lester, has been in and out of the hospital in Graham and needs our prayers. She has a serious ailment and doctors are working to get her well enough for some surgery.

Please pray for Alene Forest, Matt Bomhoff, Pie Brown, Frankie and Minerva Whitfield, Dale Deaton, Sr., Janice Davenport, June and Arliss Willingham, Greg Dunlap, Otis and Delora Hibbitts, Bruce and Keron Kinyon, Jeanie and Johnny Stoker, Novella Gilbreath, Lee Cannon, Vicki Sadler, Annette Harper, Dee and Carolyn Tate, Bill and Treon Thompson, Jean Brockman, Alex and Marilyn Dickie, Barbara and LB Atkinson, Linda Dean, Dr. Thora Thurn, Modelle Ellis, and Charlene and Odell Kite, Kelly Pate, Pam Allen, Earlene Bellah, and Martha Brown.

Please send prayers for safety and for thanks to Kelcey Cruser, and all of our military.

Get ready. The Second Annual Woodson Community Cinco De Mayo Garage Sale will be held from 8 a.m. through noon, on› Saturday,›May 4, 2019. Oooooh, the goodies are already stacking up. Call early to get put on the map. April will work.

May 4 is also the day the junior class picked for prom.

Once, I was a “robber.” On a dare, I took a glass from a restaurant when I was in Washington D.C., when I was a sophomore in high school. Ironically, I was there for a leadership conference. I have told this disappointing account to my children and my students: I put the glass in my purse, and when we got back to the hotel, the missing glass had already been reported. Our first session opened and the national officer in charge said, “We have a thief among us.” My heart sank, as he continued, “We are going to take a 30-minute room break and give the thief a chance to return the stolen glass.” He then gave out a room number and said to leave the glass by the door.

I had never even thought of stealing before. I knew better. I went to the room and I knocked and asked if I could just take the glass back to the restaurant and apologize. The officer said that would be a good idea. So, that is what I did. After returning the glass, I gave my evening meal money to the waitress, who would have had her pay docked for the glass.

We continued to eat at the little restaurant and the owner and the waitress were gracious each day. The incident was behind them. However, the shame and guilt is still overwhelming for me, when I think of this incident. And I get so angry at myself when I think I was swayed by peer pressure to participate. I chose different peers to hang out with for the rest of the week. I volunteered and cleared dishes after the meals we ate in the little café.

Of course, “theft by Tacy” has never happened again, and it won’t, thanks to this experience. I even won the weekly leadership camp “citizenship” title, which I also returned. They passed the title to a more deserving attendee, whom I suggested. ››

I hope the thieves who have pillaged Woodson feel at least a little guilt and a whole lot of shame. Thank you to the law for prompt attention and for watching our town.
