Woodson News: Gee!

Wed, 07/06/2022 - 12:00 am

Happy July! I hope you enjoyed the 4th! I hope you enjoy your freedoms given to you in this “land of the free and home of the brave”! Or, is it as I read “land of the free BECAUSE of the brave”?

4H record books go in this week June 7. I have to hand deliver printed copies, so be sure you turned yours in, if competing.

FFA members are gearing up for the State FFA Convention, next week, July 11-15. It’s in Fort Worth this year. Myia Jackson and Claire Ellis will be competing in Prepared Public Speaking, Ella Hearne and Taylor Crook will serve as FFA Ambassadors. Taylor Crook and Sam Mills will serve on Courtesy Corps. Wesley Mills will receive a scholarship and he is in the FFA Chorus. Kylie Deaton will receive a scholarship. Gevin Beauchamp and Myia Jackson will receive their Lone Star Degrees. The Woodson Chapter will receive the Golden Horizon Award (Top five single teacher departments in state – but who’s bragging!) Myia will serve on the state nominating committee to help interview state officer candidates; she heads out this week for that. There will be voting, and talent… Go Woodson FFA!

Happy July birthdays! Goose Pate! Chasin Deaton! Keaton Kuykendall! My niece Emily, nephew Leo, and Aunt Ruth Ann! Happy Birthday, America!

Happy June Anniversary to Tisha and Wesley Bellah! Congratulations!

Okay, so the Farmers’ Market will depend on the weather and gas prices. Check Facebook to see their schedule. Or, just do a drive by to check. They try to be set up by 9:30 a.m. The veggies average about $2 per pound.

In our prayers, we hold Mitchell Harris, Jeffrie Arnold, Linda Northam, Upton Dean, Van Arlan Moses, Mike Palmer, Frances Moses, Doris Walters, Alene Forest, Danny Bellah, Keith Boyd, Earlene Bellah, Ted Wright, Tom Hudson, Terry Redwine, Jean and Thomas Brockman, Janetha Venekamp, Arliss and June, Carolyn Tate, Meshell Bellah Brown, Terry Beale, Butch Hinkle, Charlotta Hamilton, Janice Devenport, LB and Barbara, Dale Deaton, Sr., Pam Allen, Jeanine Herrington, Thora and Paul Thurn, Stephen Miles, Johnny Stoker, Sharon Gober, Butch Timms, Nancy McKenzie, Ressa and Ruby, Roger Weeks, and Skip Hayworth all need our prayers.

Four weeks of summer left for teachers. Five for students, unless in high school athletics, then you start earlier. School renovations are moving along!

Let me know what you’ve done this summer!

The FBC Youth will be headed to camp soon.

Mayor Mathiews has a fresh haircut! Things are looking up!

If you need goat milk, let me know! Princess Edyth gives us about a gallon a day! It’s in the freezer.

Fishing has been good on the cool days… those are the days 99 degrees and below.

Opportunity for summer workouts is daily.

The bobcat has had his chicken supply cut off, as we are out of chickens. We have eight and they do their best to keep up with the egg market. Lucky the family has its own flock and contribute!

The “rat snake” has eaten every single peacock egg. The snake is almost eight feet long and is the tan and brown kind. Its head is three inches long. I got a good close look but had no snake catcher or gun, so the snake is laughing at me.

Down to 23 total goats on the Ellis place. Things are much simpler.

Obviously, I have no news, so until next week! May blessings continue!
