Woodson News: Happy Flag Day! Happy Fathers Day! Happy Day!

Wed, 06/15/2022 - 12:00 am

Flag Day was June 14! I hope you flew a flag, or saluted one, or pledged, or sang the National Anthem, or thought about the freedoms you enjoy, even if you see it as the freedom not to do these things.

Happy Father’s Day! Of course I wish this especially to my daddy, my husband, and my son, but I am thankful for all those out there who are fathers or fill that role in someone’s life. And, to those of you who will be fathers, look out! It’s a magical ride!

I think Throckmorton Pioneer Days went well! Thanks, to all who were involved in bringing this event back!

There will be a 4th of July BLOWOUT THIS YEAR! Contact Amber Boland at 940-521-1687 for information. Need a booth, wanna listen to great live music, or want to eat good food? Bring your friends and enjoy the fireworks!

Happy Birthday to you: Jeanne Reynolds, Dan Barlow, Hanna Miller, Jackie Butler, Grant Michaels, Amanda Butler and Bradley Horry.

A special anniversary to my parents this week! They celebrated 64 years on Flag Day! Happy June anniversary to Debby & Bobby Mathiews, Cary & Meredith Mathiews, Gary & Michelle Mathiews, Thora & Paul Thurn, Drew & Nicole Ellis!

Keaton Kuykendall placed 4th with his August heifer and 3rd with his May heifer at the state Hereford show. He also, in the peewee division, was called back in showmanship, fitted well in the fitting contest, was second in sales talk, 3rd in the poster contest, and earned a position of junior director with the Hereford association. At the intermediate level, Claire Ellis served as a youth director and will for three more years. She handed over the crown of Texas Hereford Sweetheart. Claire was called back in showmanship, placed 6th in the “Bred and Owned” show, and 4th in the open show with her May heifer, won the poster contest, was second in sales talk, and participated in the fitting contest. Miss Addy Kuykendall placed 4th with her Mini-Hereford, and was 3rd in the pre-peewee showmanship division, which was no easy task!

The Farmers’ Market folks had a little hardship getting here last weekend, but they sold out on the roadside before they turned around and headed home. They are planning on being here at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. If different, it will be posted on Facebook, or feel free to call me for an update!

It will still be on Louise Owen’s porch and under the tree across from the fire department! The good stuff goes early and it’s all good. There were some delicious homemade breads this past weekend. The fresh eggs sold out at $2.50 a dozen. Aside from okra and greens, everything is about $2 per pound. Come support the farmers! And, EAT MORE VEGETABLES!

Texted with Keron Kinyon this week. She’ll be back in July sometime, but she is enjoying Wisconsin temperatures, with highs in the 60s and 70s!

Prayers… please pray for the family of Emanuel Rosales. Emanual graduated from Woodson in 2003. He left us on June 7th. Emanuel truly loved his friends and family, and he leaves behind a young daughter, who was most precious to him. Emanuel, and brothers, would come to the house and play board games with our family in high school and after, and when Claire was born, he would just hold her and tell us how beautiful she was. And, man, could he make a car look new! He was a part of our lives that cannot be replaced. I will never forget his wonderful smile and sense of humor. I will never forget the lesson he taught this teacher, that we have to love others enough to allow them to do what is best for them, even if it means we may not get what we want.

Please continue prayers for Doris Walters, Alene Forest, JerriAnn Cornett, Jeanne Reynolds, Danny Bellah, Keith Boyd, Travis Gober, Earlene Bellah, Ted Wright, Tom Hudson, Terry Redwine, Jean and Thomas Brockman, Janetha Venekamp, Arliss and June, Carolyn Tate, Linda Northam, Meshell Bellah Brown, Terry Beale, Butch Hinkle, Charlotta Hamilton, Janice Devenport, LB and Barbara, Dale Deaton, Sr., Pam Allen, Kathy Bellah, Jeanine Herrington, Thora and Paul Thurn, Stephen Miles, Johnny Stoker, Sharon Gober, Butch Timms, Nancy McKenzie, Ressa and Ruby, Roger Weeks, and Skip Hayworth.

Seven weeks of summer left for teachers. Eight for students.

Enjoy every moment!
