Woodson News: I hope you had a great Mother’s Day

Wed, 05/12/2021 - 5:00 am

Life doesn’t come with a manual; it comes with a mother. Thanks Momma. Thank you for teaching me to read the instructions. Thanks for allowing my own interpretation of those instructions. Thank you for being the example of a strong, independent, intelligent woman. Thank you for loving me, even if it was, or still is, hard to do sometimes.

It’s my mother’s fault that you have to read the news each week. She’s the one who first inspired me to pay attention to language and to get it right, or be beaten with “a wet noodle.” She is the one who first inspired me to write and tell stories and from whom I learned my theatrical skills.

My mother did not teach me my athletic skills (I have very few but the ones I do have did not come from my mother’s inspiration), but HANNA MILLER’s mom helped her out with hers and HANNA MILLER WON STATE in the Long Jump, was second at state in the Triple Jump, and 7th in the High Jump! CONGRATULATIONS, HANNA MILLER, STATE CHAMP!

My mother did not teach me about garage sales, as a matter of fact, I don’t think she has been beyond a church rummage sale. Garage “saling” is a fault I learned on my own… but I love them! The community-wide sale was good on Saturday! Thank you to all who participated.

Momma did teach me to study for tests and to work hard to do my best on a test. Students, hope you were able to heed her advice and hopefully do well on your LAST WEEK OF STAAR Tests ! May 11- was Math 3-8, May 12- was Reading 3-8, May 13- was Science 5-8, oh, and one more day: the 8th graders take the Social Studies test on the 17th. Almost…

Four class days of school are left. Graduation for junior high and high school is May 21, 2021! It will be held in the Danny Bellah Athletic Event Complex (the New Gym).

The blood drive was held May 4th. It was good to see everyone. I did miss Ricky Morrazano, but I heard he was there! Thanks to Ricky and all who were able to contribute! Lifesavers!

The FFA Marketing Team was 4th AT STATE!! CONGRATULATIONS!

Happy May Birthday to: James Potts! Edalia! Logan Daniel! Kim Miller! Marilyn Dickie! Doris Walters!

Happy May Anniversary to Joel and Gayle Dyer!

Please pray for healing and health of Ada Smith, Hank Lawson, Danny Bellah, Linda Northam, Alene Forrest, Aletha Creech, Resa Deaton, Burl Moses, Thora and Paul Thurn, Pam Allen, Ray Lipps, Pig McWhorter, Earlene Bellah, Dale Deaton, Sr., June and Arliss, my Aunt Ruth Ann, Donice Neely, and Jay Gage. Please add Pam Butler to our list, as she will have knee surgery in the near future.

Prayers for our military personnel.

Prayers for medical staff and caregivers.

Fellowship of Christian Anybodies, @7:30 AM, every Wednesday, in Mrs. Mills’ room.

The FFA Banquet was Monday. The awards ceremony and banquet was yesterday, May 13th! Lots of awards!

Because of my momma, I really have no fear of situations. If she had fear walking into a room of strangers, it never showed, and I followed her example. If she had a fear of being on stage, it never showed through “Peppermint Patty” in the musical of “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.” I was young and went to the practices and watched in awe, and learned the songs. Then, Momma made sure I had drama lessons from Mrs. Ricks, in Abilene, Texas. I think we met at the library sometimes and at her house. I still love theater. The OAP finished up 4th at regional, but state competition awaits next year!

Mother: A woman who loves unconditionally, leads by example and who places others before herself.
