Woodson News: Making memories

Happy Homecoming Week to all of Throckmorton! Woodson homecoming week will be Oct. 10-15. Remember to turn in your Escort songs for Coronation by Monday, Oct. 3. Coronation practice is at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10 on the football field. It’s the only practice so be there! The school board met Monday. They honored Mr. and Mrs, WHS: Gevin Beauchamp and Savanna Sullivan. Congratulations to both of them! The JH Volleyball girls played well against Albany and high school faced Moran on Tuesday.

The WHS Cross Country Teams ran in Prairie Valley on Wednesday. Last week Nico Romo was first! The girls’ team was 3rd, with Kiki Buse placing 7th and Savanna Sullivan 9th. Next week they run at Henrietta Midway, and it is looking good for district, which will be Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Perrin. “See You At the Pole (SYAP)” was Wednesday and well attended. Several kids attended “Saw You at the Pole” in Albany, that evening.

Friday, Sept. 30 is a required Friday! The pep rally will be held at 7:45 a.m. this week Friday, Sept. 30! Wake up in a CHEERY mood!

The JV and Varsity Volleyball teams will be playing at home against Rising Star. Matches begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30.

The Cowboy Football teams will play at home against Rising Star at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 for JH and 7:30 p.m. for HS. Come support our team and cheerleaders as they work hard to show Woodson Pride!

The Church of Christ will host the 5th Quarter after Friday’s games.

Saturday, some of the high school UIL competitors will attend a student conference Saturday, Oct. 1 at Texas Tech. Departure time is 5:30 a.m. and we will return at 5:30 p.m. Permission slips will have gone out on Tuesday. JH OAP practice on Monday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Grab a snack and come to practice. Crew will come beginning in November. The 4H Meeting on Monday went well. Scarecrows will be turned on from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 before the football game in Throckmorton. Just bring them by the garden and sign up to enter your scarecrow.

The next chance to get your horse in a Throckmorton County Playday is at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6.

Homecoming: Costumes! Carnival! Chili! Candy! Pies! Pals! Chances! Sports! Sweethearts! Heroes! Royalty! Parade! All included in your visit to Woodson Oct.10-15!

That week, Monday will be “Punday”. Tuesday will be Surf and Turf (biker or surfer), Wednesday is Wacky with neon colors, Thursday is Throwback (favorite decade) and Friday is Black and Gold Cowboy Day!

The CHILDREN’S SONGS & STORIES, by the URBAN PIONEERS for children, ages 2-7, or for any who love to read and sing! September’s songs were a little “fishy” at least in theme and all who attended had great fun! The next song and story time is from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Woodson ISD Library! It’s free for all! This grandma loved it!

Alene Forest is back in Graham at Graham Oaks. Earlene Bellah has been in the hospital in Graham. Dick “Pop” Hash just got out of the hospital, and JerriAnn Cornett is home with her broken leg. Danny Bellah, Jo Lester, Luis Pipkin, Larry Long, Brad Whitaker, Annette Harper, Millford Hoskins, Tammy Halliford, Doris Walters, Mitchell Harris, Joanne Self, Upton Dean, Sandra Redwine, Terry Redwine, Earlene Bellah, Linda Northam, Keith and Mae Boyd, Jean and Thomas Brockman, Arliss Willingham, Carolyn Tate, Butch Hinkle, the Herrings, Janice Devenport, LB and Barbara, Pam Allen, Jeannette Herrington, Thora and Paul Thurn, Butch Timms, Janice Devenport, Stephen Miles, Sharon Gober, Nanci McKenzie, Ressa and Ruby, Roger Weeks, and Skip Hayworth all need our prayers..

Happy September Birthday to Sheryel Lester, Lake Lawson, Mark Blevins, Heston Sullivan-Garza, Mayor Mathiews, Justin Singleton, Matthew Hughes, Linda Northam, Delora Hibbitts, and Keron Kinyon! Hope all of you have had a wonderful month!

Steve and Patty Sikes have an anniversary this month! Hope it was wonderful!

Take your clean paired shoes or new shoes to Angela Miles! Drop them off at the hardware store in Woodson, or at the FSB in Throckmorton, or at Higginbotham’s in Breckenridge. This is our BOOSTER CLUB FUNDRAISER. When 2,500 pairs of shoes have amassed, Woodson will earn $1,000. We are over 400 pairs on our “Shoe Meter.”

We want your old towels! Claire Ellis will be conducting a towel drive for the animal shelters and a wildlife refuge. Bleach for cleaning will also be needed. Email me at tacylte@gmail.com, if you need to schedule a pick up. Thank you to everyone who has donated thus far!

The West Pasture RV Park is up and running! It has lake views and large lots! In town the Red Barn RV Park is up and running in the middle of town, and on the highway, we have an RV park with a laundromat. The laundromat is open to the public.

If you are having a garage sale, post it on the bulletin board at the post office. All you garage sale goers, check the bulletin board. I have heard a rumor of one this Saturday.

The Kody Norris Show will be coming to Breckenridge! He was voted as Entertainer of the Year, the show will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. Tickets are just $10 in advance. Speaking of Branson! Debby and Bobby Mathiews and Danny and Mary Bellah got away for a much needed and deserved vacation to Branson last week! They commented that many great memories were made.
