Mark your calendars

The new six weeks began this week! It’s almost summer! In sports this week, peewee football is raging! JH, JV and Varsity girls all played volleyball at Benjamin on Tuesday.

Cross country teams run in Hamlin on Wednesday of this week, which is the same day that flu shots were available at school. Come watch the JH Cowboys at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Bryson. The high school Cowboys will play in Bryson at 7:30 p.m. Friday. On Sept. 24, there are garage sales… wait that is not a sport… or is it? There is varsity volleyball at home against Harrold at 10 a.m., so why not race to a garage sale, too? The JH cowgirls will be at the TLCA Tournament on Saturday. Last week the girls cross country team was 3rd and Nicolas Romo won the boys side with his personal best time.

West Texas Fair Update is coming!

JH OAP practice is from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Mondays. ALL 8th graders and three seventh graders, with crew to be added later.

The next 4-H Meeting is at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at the Throckmorton County Garden. The kids will have a “rock race” and will learn about the scarecrow contest! The next chance to get your horse in a Throckmorton County Playday is at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6.

Homecoming is coming! Oct. 10-15! Carnival booth choices are being made, chili is planned, you may get a call for pies and candy, and classes will be selling chances so save your dollars! That’s not to mention the sports, the sweethearts and heroes, the prince and princesses, escorts, king and queen and Mr. & Mrs. WHS! And, don’t forget the parade! What are we thinking? It will be a great time for all!

Monday will be “Punday”; Tuesday will be Surf and Turf (biker or surfer); Wednesday is Wacky with neon colors; Thursday is Throwback (favorite decade); and Friday is Black and Gold Cowboy Day! The Children’s Songs & Stories, by the Urban Pioneers for children, ages 2-7, or for any who love to read and sing! September’s songs were a little “fishy” at least in theme and all who attended had great fun! The next song and story time is from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Woodson ISD Library. It includes face painting! It’s free for all! This grandma loved it!

Alene Forest is in the hospital in FW, Dick “Pop” Hash just got out of the hospital, JerriAnn Cornett broke her leg and required emergency surgery, Danny Bellah, Jo Lester, Luis Pipkin, Larry Long, Brad Whitaker, Annette Harper, Millford Hoskins, Tammy Halliford, Doris Walters, Mitchell Harris, Joanne Self, Upton Dean, Sandra Redwine, Terry Redwine, Earlene Bellah, Linda Northam, Keith and Mae Boyd, Jean and Thomas Brockman, Arliss Willingham, Carolyn Tate, Butch Hinkle, the Herrings, Janice Devenport, LB and Barbara, Pam Allen, Jeannette Herrington, Thora and Paul Thurn, Butch Timms, Janice Devenport, Stephen Miles, Sharon Gober, Nanci McKenzie, Ressa and Ruby, Roger Weeks, and Skip Hayworth all need our prayers.

If you have gently used or new shoes, clean the closet, earn money for WISD kids, and send shoes to folks who need them! Take your clean shoes to Angela Miles! Drop them off at the hardware store in Woodson, or at FSB in Throckmorton, or at Higginbotham’s in Breckenridge. This is our booster club fundraiser. When 2,500 pairs of shoes have amassed, Woodson will earn $1,000. We are over 400 pairs on our “Shoe Meter.”

Start saving your old towels! Claire Ellis will be conducting a towel drive for the animal shelters and a wildlife refuge. Bleach for cleaning will also be needed. Email me at tacylte@gmail.com, if you need to schedule a pick up.

The West Pasture RV Park is up and running! It has lake views and large lots! In town the Red Barn RV Park is up and running in the middle of town, and on the highway, we have an RV park with a laundromat. The laundromat is open to the public.

Speaking of West Pastures, there will be a garage sale that direction Saturday. Just go to the Lake Road and follow the signs. There may be several garage sales in town during the next two weeks. If you are having one, post it on the bulletin board at the post office. Still praying for rain.

In October, the Kody Norris Show will be coming to Breckenridge. The show will be at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance. Visit thekodynorrisshow. com for more information.
